Important Safety Instructions
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury to persons, including the following:
- Read all instructions before using the iron.
- Use the iron only for its intended use.
- To protect against a risk of electric shock, do not immerse the iron in water or other liquids.
- Always turn the iron OFF before plugging or unplugging from the electrical outlet. Never yank cord to disconnect from outlet; instead, grasp plug and pull to disconnect.
- Do not allow cord to touch hot surfaces. Let iron cool completely before putting away. Loop cord loosely around iron when storing.
- Always disconnect iron from electrical outlet when filling with water or emptying, and when not in use.
- Do not operate iron with a damaged cord or if the iron has been dropped or damaged. To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble the iron; take it to a qualified serviceman for examination and repair. Incorrect reassembly can cause a risk of electric shock when the iron is used.
- Close supervision is necessary for any appliance being used by or near children. Do not leave iron unattended while connected or on an ironing board.
- Burns can occur from touching hot metal parts, hot water, or steam. Use caution when you turn a steam iron upside down – there may be hot water in the reservoir.

Operating Instructions
Temperature Settings

Figure 2: Close-up of the digital control panel showing fabric settings (Linen, Cotton, Wool, Silk, Synthetic) and steam/spray buttons.
The digital control panel allows you to select the appropriate temperature for various fabric types. Press the "SET" button to cycle through the settings:
- 5 LINEN: Highest heat, suitable for linen fabrics.
- 4 COTTON: High heat, suitable for cotton fabrics.
- 3 WOOL: Medium-high heat, suitable for wool fabrics.
- 2 SILK: Medium heat, suitable for silk fabrics.
- 1 SYNTHETIC: Low heat, suitable for synthetic fabrics.
- OFF: Turns the iron off.
Allow the iron to heat up to the selected temperature. The indicator light will signal when the iron is ready.
Dry Ironing
For dry ironing, ensure the water tank is empty or the steam setting is off. Select the desired temperature for your fabric. Once the iron reaches temperature, proceed with ironing.
Steam Ironing

Figure 3: The Hamilton Beach iron emitting steam while being used on a black shirt, demonstrating its steam functionality.
For steam ironing, ensure the water tank is filled. Select a temperature setting suitable for steam (typically Cotton or Linen). Once the iron is hot, steam will be generated automatically or can be activated by pressing the steam button. Use the steam burst button for stubborn wrinkles.
- Steam Burst Button: Press for an extra burst of steam.
- Spray Mist Button: Press to spray a fine mist of water onto the fabric.
Vertical Steam
The vertical steam feature allows you to remove wrinkles from hanging garments, drapes, and upholstery. Hold the iron vertically, approximately 15-30 cm (6-12 inches) from the fabric, and press the steam burst button. Do not allow the soleplate to touch the fabric.
Retractable Cord Operation

Figure 4: A hand pressing the button to retract the power cord into the base of the iron for compact storage.
To retract the cord, ensure the iron is unplugged and cooled. Press and hold the cord retraction button located near the cord entry point. Guide the cord gently as it retracts into the iron. If the cord does not retract fully, pull it out slightly and try again.
Maintenance and Care
Self-Clean Function
To maintain optimal steam performance and prevent mineral buildup, use the self-clean function regularly (e.g., once a month or as needed).
- Fill the water tank to the MAX line.
- Plug in the iron and set the temperature to the highest setting (Linen).
- Once the iron reaches temperature, unplug it.
- Hold the iron horizontally over a sink. Press and hold the SELF CLEAN button. Hot water and steam will flush out mineral deposits from the steam vents.
- Gently rock the iron back and forth until the water tank is empty.
- Plug the iron back in and let it heat up to dry out any remaining water. Unplug and store once cooled.
Cleaning the Soleplate

Figure 5: The Durathon soleplate of the iron, featuring numerous steam holes for even steam distribution.
Allow the iron to cool completely. Wipe the soleplate with a damp cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner if necessary. Do not use abrasive scouring pads or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the Durathon coating.
Storage
After each use, ensure the iron is unplugged and completely cooled. Empty any remaining water from the tank. Retract the cord for neat storage. Store the iron upright on its heel rest in a safe, dry place.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Iron does not heat up. | Not plugged in; power outlet malfunction; auto shutoff activated. | Ensure iron is securely plugged into a working outlet. Check circuit breaker. Move iron to reactivate if auto shutoff engaged. |
| No steam or insufficient steam. | Water tank empty; temperature setting too low; steam vents clogged. | Fill water tank. Select a higher temperature setting (Cotton or Linen). Perform self-clean cycle to clear vents. |
| Water leaks from soleplate. | Temperature setting too low for steam; water tank overfilled. | Increase temperature setting. Do not overfill water tank. Ensure anti-drip system is functioning. |
| Iron sticks to fabric. | Temperature setting too high for fabric type; soleplate is dirty. | Adjust temperature to match fabric. Clean the soleplate as per maintenance instructions. |
