3. Installation Instructions

Follow these steps to install the Invacare Bed Casters:

  1. Prepare the Bed: Ensure the bed is unplugged from any power source (if electric) and is in a stable position. If replacing existing casters, lift the bed slightly or tilt it to access the caster mounts.
  2. Remove Old Casters (if applicable): Carefully pull out or unscrew the old casters from the bed frame. Some casters may require a tool for removal.
  3. Insert New Casters: Align the stem of the new caster with the mounting hole on the bed frame. Push firmly until the caster stem is fully seated. A rubber mallet can be used gently if needed, but avoid excessive force.
  4. Distribute Casters: It is recommended to install the two casters with brakes on the same end of the bed (e.g., the head end) for easier access and effective braking. The two casters without brakes should be installed on the opposite end.
  5. Verify Installation: Once all casters are installed, gently lower the bed and ensure all casters are securely in place and rotate freely.

Note: Always refer to your specific bed model's manual for any unique caster installation requirements.

4. Operating Instructions

The Invacare Bed Casters are designed for smooth movement and secure positioning.

  • Moving the Bed: To move the bed, ensure all caster brakes are disengaged. Gently push the bed in the desired direction. Avoid sudden, forceful movements.
  • Engaging Brakes: To secure the bed in place, locate the casters with brakes. Press down firmly on the brake lever or pedal until it locks into position. Verify that the bed does not move.
  • Disengaging Brakes: To release the brakes, lift the brake lever or pedal until it returns to its original position. Verify that the caster wheel can rotate freely.

Always engage the brakes when the bed is stationary to prevent unintended movement and ensure user safety.

5. Care and Maintenance

Proper care and maintenance will extend the life of your Invacare Bed Casters:

  • Cleaning: Clean the casters regularly with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the material.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the casters for signs of wear, damage, or debris accumulation. Ensure the wheels rotate freely and the brakes engage and disengage properly.
  • Lubrication: If casters become stiff or noisy, a small amount of silicone-based lubricant can be applied to the axle and swivel points. Avoid oil-based lubricants that can attract dirt.
  • Replacement: If any caster is severely damaged, cracked, or no longer functions correctly, replace it immediately with an authentic Invacare replacement part to maintain safety and performance.
