Setup

Attaching the Lens:

  1. Align the red dot on the lens barrel with the red dot on your camera's lens mount.
  2. Gently insert the lens into the camera mount.
  3. Rotate the lens clockwise until it clicks into place, indicating it is securely locked.

Using the Lens Hood:

The lens comes with a retractable lens hood (LH-76) to reduce flare and provide protection. To extend the hood, twist it counter-clockwise until it locks into the extended position. To retract it for storage, twist it clockwise until it clicks into the compact position.

Attaching the Tripod Collar:

The integrated tripod collar allows for better balance when mounting the lens and camera on a tripod or monopod. Loosen the knob on the collar, rotate the lens to your desired orientation (horizontal or vertical), and then tighten the knob to secure it.

Teleconverter Compatibility:

This lens is compatible with OM SYSTEM M.Zuiko Digital teleconverters (e.g., MC-14, MC-20) to extend its focal length. To attach a teleconverter, first remove the lens from the camera. Attach the teleconverter to the camera body, ensuring it clicks into place. Then, attach the 40-150mm lens to the teleconverter. Refer to your teleconverter's manual for specific instructions.

Operating the Lens

Autofocus (AF):

The lens utilizes a Dual Voice Coil Motor (VCM) system for fast, quiet, and precise autofocus. Ensure your camera's focus mode is set to AF. The lens will automatically focus when the shutter button is half-pressed or when the AF-ON button (if available on your camera) is pressed.

Manual Focus (MF Clutch):

To switch to manual focus, pull the focus ring on the lens barrel towards the camera body. This engages the MF Clutch, revealing a distance scale and allowing for precise manual focusing. Push the focus ring forward to return to autofocus mode.

L-Fn Function Button:

The L-Fn (Lens Function) button located on the lens barrel can be customized via your camera's menu system. Common functions assigned include AF Stop, Depth of Field Preview, or other frequently used settings. Consult your camera's manual for detailed customization options.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Lens:

  • Use a blower brush to remove dust and loose particles from the lens surfaces.
  • For smudges or fingerprints, use a clean microfiber cloth specifically designed for optics, along with a small amount of lens cleaning solution if necessary.
  • The front element features a fluorine coating, which repels water and oil, making it easier to clean.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as these can damage the lens coatings.

Weather Resistance:

This lens is designed with weather sealing to be splash, freeze, and dust resistant. While it can withstand challenging conditions, it is not fully waterproof. Avoid submerging the lens in water. After exposure to moisture or dust, wipe the lens and camera body clean with a dry, soft cloth.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your lens, please refer to the following general troubleshooting steps:

  • Lens not recognized by camera: Ensure the lens is securely mounted and the camera contacts are clean. Turn the camera off and on again.
  • Autofocus issues: Check that the MF Clutch is not engaged. Ensure there is sufficient light and contrast for the autofocus system to work effectively.
  • Image quality concerns: Verify that the lens elements are clean and free from smudges or dust. Ensure appropriate camera settings (ISO, aperture, shutter speed) are used for the shooting conditions.

For persistent problems, consult your camera's instruction manual or contact OM SYSTEM customer support.
