Setup Guide
- Connect the SATA Drive: Align the SATA data and power connectors of your 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch HDD/SSD or optical drive with the corresponding connectors on the Inateck USB 3.0 to SATA Adapter. Gently push the drive onto the adapter until it is firmly seated.
- Connect External Power (for 3.5-inch drives): If you are using a 3.5-inch hard drive or an optical drive, connect the included 12V 2A power adapter to the DC input jack on the Inateck adapter, then plug the power adapter into a wall outlet. Note: 2.5-inch SSDs/HDDs typically do not require external power as they draw sufficient power from the USB port.
- Connect to Computer: Plug the USB 3.0 data cable into the USB 3.0 port on the Inateck adapter and the other end into an available USB 3.0 port on your computer. The adapter is plug-and-play and does not require additional drivers for most operating systems.
- System Recognition: Your operating system should automatically detect the connected drive. For new drives, you may need to initialize and format them through Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (macOS) before use.

Operating Instructions
Once connected and recognized by your computer, the drive will function like any other external storage device.
- Data Transfer: Drag and drop files to and from the connected drive, or use copy/paste functions. The USB 3.0 interface provides data transfer speeds up to 5 Gbps, significantly faster than USB 2.0.
- Accessing Optical Drives: If an optical drive is connected, you can insert CDs, DVDs, or Blu-ray discs to read data or play media, provided your system has the necessary software.
- Safe Removal: Always safely eject the drive from your operating system before disconnecting the adapter or the drive to prevent data corruption.
Compatibility
The Inateck USB 3.0 to SATA Adapter is compatible with a wide range of operating systems and drive types:
- Operating Systems: Windows 2000 / XP / Server 2003 / Vista / Win 7 / Win 8 / Win 10 / Mac OS X 10.X and later.
- Drive Types: 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA I/II/III HDDs and SSDs.

Troubleshooting
- Drive not detected:
- - Ensure all cables are securely connected. Check both the SATA connection to the drive and the USB connection to the computer.
- - For 3.5-inch drives, confirm the external power adapter is correctly connected and plugged into a live outlet. The blue LED on the adapter should illuminate.
- - Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer, preferably a USB 3.0 port (often blue colored).
- - Check Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (macOS) to see if the drive is recognized but uninitialized or unformatted. New drives require initialization and formatting.
- - Some older DVD/Blu-ray drives, particularly certain Samsung or TSST models, may have security features that prevent recognition via external adapters. This adapter is generally compatible with most optical drives, but specific models might vary.
- Slow transfer speeds:
- - Ensure you are connected to a USB 3.0 port on your computer. USB 2.0 ports will limit speeds to USB 2.0 rates.
- - The actual transfer speed depends on the performance of your hard drive/SSD and your computer's USB controller.
- Drive disconnects randomly:
- - Verify the external power supply is stable, especially for 3.5-inch drives. A fluctuating power supply can cause disconnections.
- - Ensure the SATA connection is firm and not loose.
- - Avoid using unpowered USB hubs. Connect the adapter directly to a computer's USB port.
