1. Important Safety Instructions
Always observe basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury when operating this tool. Read all instructions before operating this product.
General Power Tool Safety Warnings
- Work Area Safety: Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
- Electrical Safety: Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
- Personal Safety: Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. Always wear eye protection. Use safety equipment such as dust masks, non-skid safety shoes, hard hats, or hearing protection for appropriate conditions.
- Tool Use and Care: Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.
- Magnetic Base Safety: Ensure the magnetic base is securely attached to a clean, flat, ferromagnetic surface before starting the drill. The magnetic force is crucial for stability and safe operation.
- Coolant System: Always use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling metal to prolong bit life and improve cutting performance. Ensure the coolant system is properly filled and functioning.

3. Operating Instructions
Follow these steps for safe and effective operation of your magnetic drill press.
Powering On and Magnetic Base Engagement:
- Secure the Base: Place the magnetic drill press on a clean, flat, ferromagnetic work surface. Ensure there are no obstructions or debris that could compromise the magnetic hold.
- Engage Magnet: Connect the power cord. Flip the magnetic base switch to the 'ON' position. Verify the magnet is fully engaged and the drill press is stable before proceeding.
Speed Selection:
The DWE1622K features a 2-speed gearbox for optimal performance across various materials and bit types.
- Speed 1 (Lower RPM): Ideal for larger diameter holes, harder materials, or when using annular cutters.
- Speed 2 (Higher RPM): Suitable for smaller diameter holes or softer materials.

Figure 3.1: Use the speed selector switch to choose between two different rotational speeds.
Drilling Operation:
- Select Speed: Choose the appropriate speed setting for your material and bit.
- Activate Coolant: Ensure the coolant flow is adjusted to provide adequate lubrication to the cutting area.
- Start Drilling: Turn on the drill motor. Slowly feed the drill bit into the workpiece using the feed handles. Apply steady, even pressure.
- Monitor Progress: Watch for chip formation and listen to the motor. Adjust feed rate as needed. The overload protection electronics will prevent motor damage.
- Retract and Turn Off: Once the hole is complete, retract the drill bit from the workpiece. Turn off the drill motor, then disengage the magnetic base.
