Introduction

This manual provides comprehensive instructions for setting up, operating, and maintaining your AT&T EL51203 DECT 6.0 Cordless Home Phone system. This system includes two cordless handsets and a base unit, designed for clear communication and ease of use.

What's in the Box

Your AT&T EL51203 package contains the following items:

Setup

Follow these steps to set up your AT&T EL51203 cordless phone system.

1. Battery Installation

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the back of each handset.
  2. Connect the battery pack plug into the jack inside the compartment, ensuring correct polarity.
  3. Place the battery pack inside the compartment.
  4. Slide the battery compartment cover back into place until it clicks.

Note: Use only the supplied rechargeable Ni-MH battery packs. Non-rechargeable batteries may cause damage or injury.

2. Base Unit and Charger Connection

  1. Plug the small end of the base unit power adapter into the power jack on the back of the base unit.
  2. Plug the large end of the base unit power adapter into an electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch.
  3. Plug the small end of the handset charger power adapter into the power jack on the back of the charger.
  4. Plug the large end of the handset charger power adapter into an electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch.

Important: Use only the power adapters provided with this product.

3. Telephone Line Connection

  1. Plug one end of the telephone line cord into the TEL LINE jack on the back of the base unit.
  2. Plug the other end of the telephone line cord into a telephone wall jack.

Note: If you have DSL high-speed internet service, a DSL filter (not included) is required.

4. Initial Battery Charging

Place each handset in its respective base unit or charger with the display facing up. The CHARGE light on the handset will illuminate. Allow the handsets to charge for at least 16 hours before first use to ensure optimal battery performance.

Making and Answering Calls

Display and Keypad

The handset features an easy-to-read, high-contrast backlit LCD display for clear viewing of incoming Caller ID and call history. The lighted keypad facilitates dialing in low-light conditions, and its enlarged font and extra-large keys improve usability.

Full-Duplex Handset Speakerphone

The built-in full-duplex speakerphone allows both parties to speak and be heard simultaneously, enhancing conversation quality.

Caller ID / Call Waiting

This feature displays the name, number, time, and date of incoming calls. A subscription to Caller ID service from your telephone service provider is required.

Phonebook Directory

Store up to 50 names and numbers in the phonebook for quick dialing.

Eco Mode

Eco Mode is a power-conserving technology that manages power consumption for optimal battery performance. It activates automatically when the handset is close to the base unit.

Quiet Mode

Temporarily silences the ringer on all handsets and the base unit for a set period (e.g., 1 to 12 hours). Calls will still go to voicemail if available.

Intercom

Allows communication between two handsets within the system.

Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your phone, try these common troubleshooting steps:

  • Ensure the base unit power adapter is securely plugged into an electrical outlet.
  • Verify the telephone line cord is properly connected to the base unit and wall jack.
  • If you have DSL, ensure a DSL filter is installed.
Handset does not charge
  • Make sure the handset is correctly placed in the charger. The CHARGE light should be on.
  • Check that the charger's power adapter is plugged in.
  • Clean the charging contacts on the handset and charger with a dry cloth.
Poor sound quality / Static
  • Move the handset closer to the base unit.
  • Avoid placing the base unit near other electronic devices (e.g., microwaves, computers) that may cause interference.
  • Ensure the telephone line cord is not damaged.
Caller ID not displayed
  • You must subscribe to Caller ID service from your telephone service provider.
  • Ensure the phone is connected to a working telephone line.
