5. Operating the Safe
5.1 Opening with the Combination Lock
Your SentrySafe SFW205DPB uses a mechanical combination lock. Follow these steps to open the safe:

- Turn the dial to the left (counter-clockwise) three full turns, passing the second number twice, and stopping on the second number on the third turn.
- Turn the dial to the right (clockwise) two full turns, passing the third number once, and stopping on the third number on the second turn.
- Turn the dial to the left (counter-clockwise) until the dial stops. This should be the fourth number of your combination.
- Rotate the handle to open the safe door.
Note: If the safe does not open, repeat the steps carefully. Ensure precise stopping on each number. Avoid forcing the handle.
5.2 Using the Dual Key Lock
The dual key lock provides an additional layer of security. It can be used in conjunction with the combination lock or to secure the safe when the combination is not in use.
- To lock: Insert the key and turn it to the locked position. Remove the key.
- To unlock: Insert the key and turn it to the unlocked position. Remove the key.
Always ensure the safe door is fully closed and the handle is turned to the locked position before engaging the key lock.
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the safe with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Lock Mechanism: The combination lock is a precision instrument. Do not attempt to lubricate or disassemble the lock mechanism. If you experience issues, contact customer support.
- Door Seal: Periodically inspect the door seal for any signs of damage or wear to ensure continued fire and water protection.
- Hinges: The hinges are designed for long-term use and typically do not require lubrication.
7. Troubleshooting
7.1 Safe Does Not Open
- Combination Entry Error: Ensure you are following the combination dialing sequence precisely. Each number must be stopped on accurately.
- Dialing Direction: Confirm you are turning the dial in the correct clockwise/counter-clockwise sequence for each number.
- Handle Stuck: If the handle feels stiff, ensure the safe is on a level surface. Sometimes slight pressure on the door can help release the mechanism.
- Key Lock Engaged: Verify that the dual key lock is in the unlocked position before attempting to open with the combination.
7.2 Safe Door Does Not Close Properly
- Obstruction: Check for any items inside the safe that might be preventing the door from closing fully.
- Door Alignment: Ensure the safe is on a level surface. If the safe is bolted down, check if the bolts are overtightened or causing distortion.
- Handle Position: Make sure the handle is in the open position before attempting to close the door, then rotate it to the locked position once closed.
7.3 Lost Combination or Keys
If you have lost your combination or keys, contact SentrySafe customer support directly. You will likely need to provide proof of ownership for assistance.
