1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Intel D875PBZ Motherboard. 2. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps carefully to install your Intel D875PBZ Motherboard and its components.

2.1. Motherboard Installation

  1. Prepare the Chassis: Ensure your computer case is compatible with ATX form factor motherboards. Install the I/O plate into the rear opening of the chassis.
  2. Mount the Motherboard: Carefully align the motherboard with the standoffs in your chassis. Secure it using appropriate screws. Do not overtighten.

2.2. CPU Installation (Socket 478)

  1. Open CPU Socket: Lift the lever on the Socket 478 CPU socket.
  2. Insert CPU: Align the triangular mark on the Intel Pentium 4 CPU with the corresponding mark on the socket. Gently place the CPU into the socket. Do not force it.
  3. Secure CPU: Lower the lever to lock the CPU into place.
  4. Install CPU Cooler: Note: A CPU cooler is NOT included with this product. Install a compatible Socket 478 CPU cooler (fan and heatsink) according to its manufacturer's instructions. Ensure proper thermal paste application and secure mounting for effective cooling.

2.3. RAM Installation (DDR)

  1. Open RAM Slot Clips: Open the retention clips at both ends of the DDR RAM slots.
  2. Insert RAM Modules: Align the notch on the DDR RAM module with the key in the RAM slot. Press down firmly on both ends of the module until the clips snap into place.

2.4. Connecting Peripherals

  1. Power Connectors: Connect the 20-pin ATX main power connector and the 4-pin ATX 12V power connector from your power supply to the motherboard.
  2. Storage Devices: Connect SATA drives to the SATA ports and IDE drives to the IDE connectors on the motherboard.
  3. Expansion Cards: Install AGP graphics cards into the AGP slot and other expansion cards (e.g., sound cards, network cards) into the PCI slots.
  4. Front Panel Connectors: Connect the power switch, reset switch, HDD LED, and power LED cables from your chassis front panel to the corresponding pins on the motherboard. Refer to the motherboard's silkscreen labels for correct orientation.
  5. USB and Audio: Connect front panel USB and audio headers if available on your chassis.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1. Initial Boot-Up

  1. Power On: After all components are securely installed and connected, connect your monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Power on your system.
  2. BIOS Access: During the initial boot sequence, press the designated key (commonly DEL, F2, or F10) to enter the BIOS setup utility. Consult your screen for the exact key prompt.
  3. BIOS Configuration: Configure boot order, date/time, and other system settings as needed. Save changes and exit the BIOS.

3.2. Operating System Installation

Insert your operating system installation media (e.g., CD/DVD) and follow the on-screen prompts to install the operating system. Ensure all necessary drivers for the chipset, audio, and network are installed after the OS installation for optimal performance.

Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and stable operation of your motherboard.

  • Dust Removal: Periodically open your computer case and use compressed air to remove dust buildup from the motherboard, CPU cooler, and other components. Dust can impede airflow and cause overheating.
  • Connection Checks: Ensure all power cables, data cables, and expansion cards are securely seated. Loose connections can lead to system instability.
  • BIOS Battery: The motherboard uses a CR2032 coin cell battery to retain BIOS settings. If your system consistently loses time or BIOS settings, the battery may need replacement.

5. Troubleshooting

  • No Power/No POST:
    • Verify all power cables (20-pin ATX, 4-pin 12V) are securely connected.
    • Ensure the CPU and RAM are correctly installed.
    • Check that the power supply is functioning correctly.
    • Remove all non-essential components (e.g., extra RAM, expansion cards) and attempt to boot with only the CPU, one RAM stick, and the graphics card.
  • No Display:
    • Ensure the monitor is connected to the graphics card (AGP) and powered on.
    • Reseat the graphics card. Try a different graphics card if available.
    • Check RAM installation. Faulty or improperly seated RAM can prevent display output.
  • System Instability/Crashes:
    • Check CPU and chipset temperatures. Ensure CPU cooler is properly installed and fan is spinning.
    • Run memory diagnostic tools to check for faulty RAM.
    • Ensure all drivers are up to date.
    • Check for loose connections or damaged cables.
  • BIOS Reset: To clear CMOS settings, locate the CLR_CMOS jumper on the motherboard (refer to the silkscreen). With the system powered off and unplugged, move the jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3 for 5-10 seconds, then return it to 1-2. Alternatively, remove the BIOS battery for a few minutes.
