2. General Safety Information

2.1 Work Area Safety

• Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.

• Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.

4. Setup

4.1 Charging the Battery

1. Connect the quick charger to a standard power outlet.
2. Slide the 18V Lithium-Ion battery pack onto the charger until it clicks into place.
3. The charging indicator light on the charger will illuminate, indicating the charging status. A full charge typically takes approximately 90 minutes.
4. Once fully charged, remove the battery pack from the charger.

Note: The battery pack may become slightly warm during charging. This is normal. Do not charge the battery in temperatures below 10°C (50°F) or above 40°C (104°F).

4.2 Installing and Removing the Battery

• To Install: Align the battery pack with the base of the drill handle and slide it in until it locks securely into place. Ensure it is fully seated.
• To Remove: Press the battery release button (usually located at the front of the battery pack) and slide the battery pack out of the tool.

4.3 Installing and Removing Drill/Screwdriver Bits

1. Ensure the tool is switched off and the battery is removed before changing accessories.
2. Grip the rear half of the chuck and rotate the front half counter-clockwise until the chuck jaws are open wide enough to insert the bit.
3. Insert the desired drill bit or screwdriver bit fully into the chuck.
4. Rotate the front half of the chuck clockwise to tighten the jaws securely around the bit. Hand-tighten firmly.
5. To Remove: Rotate the front half of the chuck counter-clockwise to loosen the jaws and pull the bit out.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off and Speed Control

• The tool is switched ON by pressing the variable speed trigger switch. The tool speed increases as you increase pressure on the trigger.
• The tool is switched OFF by releasing the trigger switch.

5.2 Forward/Reverse Control

The forward/reverse slider switch is located above the trigger. Push the slider to the left for forward rotation (for drilling and screwdriving) and to the right for reverse rotation (for removing screws).

WARNING: Do not change the direction of rotation while the motor is running.

5.3 Autosense Technology and Mode Selection

The ASD18K-QW features Autosense technology, which automatically detects the material and screw type during screwdriving to prevent overtightening or stripping. The digital display allows you to select between drilling and screwdriving modes and shows the battery charge status.

1. Selecting Mode: Use the digital display buttons to toggle between "Drill Mode" and "Screwdriver Mode".
2. Screwdriver Mode (Autosense): When in screwdriver mode, the tool will automatically sense the resistance and stop when the screw is flush with the surface, or when the desired depth is reached. It also allows for gradual screw sinking with 1/4 turn increments for precise control.
3. Drill Mode: In drill mode, the tool operates at full power for drilling holes.
4. Battery Indicator: The digital display also shows the current battery charge level.

5.4 Drilling

• Select "Drill Mode" on the digital display.
• Secure the workpiece to prevent it from rotating.
• Position the drill bit at the desired location.
• Start the drill at a low speed and gradually increase pressure and speed as the bit penetrates the material.
• Maintain a firm grip on the tool.

5.5 Screwdriving

• Select "Screwdriver Mode" on the digital display.
• Ensure the correct screwdriver bit is installed for the screw type.
• Place the bit into the screw head and apply light, steady pressure.
• Press the trigger. The Autosense technology will manage the torque to drive the screw appropriately.
• For fine adjustments, utilize the 1/4 turn increments feature in screwdriver mode.

• Keep the ventilation slots of the tool clean to prevent overheating.
