The ECHO ES-250 Shred N Vac includes the following main components:
- Powerhead (engine unit)
- Blower tubes
- Vacuum tubes
- Collection bag
- Operator's Manual (this document)
- 2-stroke oil (for fuel mixing)

4. Setup and Assembly
4.1 Fuel Mixture
The ES-250 uses a 2-stroke engine and requires a specific fuel mixture. Use fresh, unleaded gasoline mixed with ECHO-approved 2-stroke engine oil at the ratio specified in the engine manual (typically 50:1). Do not use automotive oil or straight gasoline.
4.2 Assembly for Vacuum/Mulching Mode
- Ensure the engine is off and cool.
- Attach the vacuum tubes to the intake port of the powerhead. Secure them firmly.
- Connect the collection bag to the discharge elbow of the powerhead. Ensure the Velcro strap or clamp is tightly secured to prevent debris leakage.
- Adjust the shoulder strap of the collection bag for comfortable use.
4.3 Assembly for Blower Mode
- Ensure the engine is off and cool.
- Remove the vacuum tubes and collection bag.
- Attach the blower tube to the discharge port of the powerhead.
- Install the intake cover over the intake port to prevent debris from entering the impeller.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Starting the Engine
- Place the unit on a flat, stable surface.
- Ensure the fuel tank is filled with the correct fuel mixture.
- Set the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
- Engage the choke (if engine is cold).
- Press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible.
- Pull the starter rope firmly until the engine attempts to start (usually 1-3 pulls).
- Disengage the choke and pull the starter rope again until the engine starts.
- Allow the engine to warm up for a few moments before operating at full throttle.
5.2 Using the Vacuum/Mulcher
- Hold the unit firmly with both hands.
- Guide the vacuum tube over the debris to be collected. The powerful suction will draw leaves and small debris into the impeller for shredding.
- Periodically check the collection bag and empty it when full to maintain optimal performance.
- Avoid vacuuming large sticks, rocks, or wet, heavy debris, as this can damage the impeller or clog the unit.
5.3 Using the Blower
- Hold the unit firmly, directing the blower tube towards the debris.
- Use a sweeping motion to move leaves and light debris into piles.
- Adjust the throttle for variable speed control as needed for different tasks.

- Remove the spark plug boot and then the spark plug.
- Inspect for carbon buildup or wear. Clean or replace as necessary. Refer to the engine manual for correct spark plug type and gap.
6.3 Impeller and Housing Cleaning
- Always ensure the engine is off and the spark plug boot is disconnected before performing this task.
- Remove the vacuum/blower tubes and inspect the impeller and housing for debris, especially after vacuuming.
- Carefully remove any accumulated debris or clogs.
6.4 Storage
- For long-term storage, drain the fuel tank or use a fuel stabilizer.
