This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use, setup, operation, and maintenance of your BrassCraft Drum Auger.

Safety Information

Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves and eye protection, when operating the drum auger. Ensure the work area is well-lit and clear of obstructions. Do not use the auger with harsh chemical drain cleaners, as this can damage the tool or create hazardous fumes. Keep hands and loose clothing away from the rotating cable.

The auger consists of a durable high-impact polymer drum housing, a comfortable pistol grip, and a flexible steel cable with a corkscrew tip. The quick-lever cable lock mechanism allows for easy extension and retraction of the cable.

Setup

  1. Prepare the Area: Clear any standing water from the sink, tub, or shower. Place towels or a bucket to catch any water or debris that may come out of the drain.
  2. Access the Drain: Remove any drain covers or stoppers to gain full access to the drain opening.
  3. Inspect the Auger: Before each use, inspect the cable for any kinks, breaks, or damage. Ensure the quick-lever cable lock operates smoothly.

Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to effectively clear a clogged drain:

  1. Extend the Cable: Loosen the quick-lever cable lock. Pull out approximately 6-12 inches of cable from the drum.
  2. Insert into Drain: Carefully insert the tip of the cable into the drain opening.
  3. Advance the Cable: While holding the pistol grip firmly, push the cable into the drain. Once the cable meets resistance (indicating the clog), tighten the quick-lever cable lock.
  4. Rotate and Push: Rotate the drum housing using the handle while simultaneously pushing the cable further into the drain. This action helps the corkscrew tip bore through or hook onto the clog.
  5. Clear the Clog: Continue rotating and pushing until the cable passes through the clog. You may feel the resistance lessen.
  6. Retract the Cable: Loosen the quick-lever cable lock. Pull the cable back slowly, feeding it back into the drum while maintaining a slight tension to prevent kinking. Be prepared for debris to come out with the cable.
  7. Flush the Drain: Once the cable is fully retracted, run hot water down the drain for several minutes to flush away any remaining debris. If the drain is still slow, repeat the process.

Note: The provided video demonstrates the operation of a similar drum auger, illustrating the process of extending, locking, rotating, and retracting the cable to clear a clog.
