Maintenance
The First Alert 0827B is designed to be maintenance-free for its 10-year lifespan due to its sealed battery. However, regular cleaning and testing are recommended:
- Test Weekly: Push the test button once per week to ensure the alarm is functioning correctly.
- Clean Monthly: Gently vacuum or use clean compressed air once per month around the alarm's vents to remove dust and debris that could interfere with its operation.
The alarm is sealed and not user serviceable. Do not attempt to open or repair the unit.
Troubleshooting
If your First Alert 0827B smoke alarm exhibits any of the following behaviors, refer to the alarm guide in the Operating section or consider replacing the unit:
- Constant Chirping (1 chirp per 40 seconds): Indicates a low battery. The unit needs to be replaced.
- Constant Chirping (3 chirps per 40 seconds): Indicates the alarm has reached its end of life. The unit needs to be replaced.
- No Response to Test Button: Ensure the alarm is properly activated. If it still does not respond, the unit may be faulty and should be replaced.
