4. Setup & Installation

The RYOBI S-122P C1 Door Closer is designed for screw-in installation. Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance and safety. Consult a professional if you are unsure about any steps.

4.1. Pre-Installation Steps

  1. Determine Mounting Location: Decide whether the closer will be mounted on the push side (regular arm) or pull side (parallel arm) of the door. This will affect the template used and arm orientation.
  2. Prepare Door and Frame: Ensure the door and frame surfaces are clean, flat, and free from obstructions.
  3. Mark Drilling Points: Use the provided template (not included in this manual, refer to product packaging) to mark the drilling points on the door and door frame.

4.2. Installation Procedure

  1. Mount the Closer Body: Secure the door closer body to the door or frame using the provided screws. Ensure it is level and firmly attached.
  2. Attach the Main Arm: Connect the main arm to the spindle of the closer body. The arm should be positioned according to your chosen mounting configuration (regular or parallel arm).
  3. Install the Mounting Bracket: Attach the mounting bracket to the door frame (for regular arm) or door (for parallel arm) using the appropriate screws.
  4. Connect the Forearm: Connect the forearm to the main arm and then to the mounting bracket. Adjust the length of the forearm as needed to ensure proper alignment.
  5. Secure Arm Cap: Place the arm cap over the spindle for a finished look and to protect the mechanism.

5. Operating Instructions & Adjustment

The RYOBI S-122P C1 features a 3-valve latching action, providing a quick closing function just before the door fully closes. This is particularly effective for achieving a secure seal on airtight doors.

5.1. Initial Operation

After installation, slowly open and close the door to observe the closing cycle. The door should close smoothly without slamming or excessive resistance.

5.2. Adjusting Closing Speed

The door closer has adjustment valves to control the closing speed and latching speed. These valves are typically located on the end of the closer body.

  • Closing Speed (Sweep Speed): This valve controls the speed of the door from its fully open position to approximately 10-15 degrees from closed. Turn the screw clockwise to decrease speed (slower) and counter-clockwise to increase speed (faster).
  • Latching Speed: This valve controls the speed of the door for the final 10-15 degrees of closing. This is the 'latching action' that ensures the door fully engages with the latch. Turn the screw clockwise to decrease speed (slower latch) and counter-clockwise to increase speed (faster latch).

Caution: Do not turn adjustment screws more than two full turns counter-clockwise from the factory setting, as this may cause fluid leakage and damage the closer.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and proper functioning of your RYOBI S-122P C1 Door Closer.

  • Periodic Inspection: Annually inspect the door closer for any signs of wear, damage, or fluid leakage. Check all mounting screws for tightness.
  • Cleaning: Wipe the closer body and arm with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and grime. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Lubrication: The internal mechanism is factory-lubricated and sealed. No additional lubrication is required. Do not attempt to open the closer body.
  • Arm Assembly: Ensure the arm assembly moves freely and is not bent or obstructed.
