1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe operation, maintenance, and care of your NESCO FS-250 Stainless Steel Food Slicer. Please read all instructions thoroughly before using the appliance to ensure proper function and safety.

The NESCO FS-250 is designed for slicing various foods such as meats, cheeses, bread, vegetables, and fruits. It features an 8.7-inch stainless steel serrated blade and an adjustable thickness control for precise slicing from deli-thin to 9/16 inch.

2. Important Safety Instructions

WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury or electric shock, always follow these basic safety precautions.

  • Read all instructions before operating the food slicer.
  • Do not immerse the motor unit of this appliance in water or any other liquid.

4. Setup and Assembly

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Retain packaging for future storage or transport.
  2. Clean: Before first use, clean all parts that will come into contact with food. Refer to the "Cleaning and Maintenance" section for detailed instructions.
  3. Placement: Place the slicer on a clean, dry, stable, and level surface. Ensure the non-slip feet are firmly gripping the countertop.
  4. Blade Installation (if removed): Ensure the blade is securely attached. The 8.7-inch stainless steel serrated blade is typically pre-installed. If removed for cleaning, align the blade with the motor shaft and secure it according to the instructions in the cleaning section.
  5. Food Carriage and Press: Ensure the food carriage slides smoothly and the food press is correctly positioned to hold food securely.
  6. Power Connection: Plug the power cord into a standard 120V AC electrical outlet. Ensure the power switch is in the "OFF" position before plugging in.

5. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for safe and effective slicing:

  1. Prepare Food: For best results, chill meats and cheeses before slicing. Trim food to fit comfortably on the food carriage.
  2. Adjust Thickness: Turn the thickness control dial to your desired slice thickness. Settings range from deli-thin to 9/16 inch.
  3. Position Food: Place the food item firmly against the food carriage and the thickness guide plate. Use the die-cast aluminum food press to secure the food.
  4. Power On: Ensure your hands are clear of the blade area, then press the recessed power switch to the "ON" position. The blade will begin to rotate.
  5. Slice Food: Gently push the food carriage forward and backward, guiding the food against the rotating blade. Apply even, steady pressure with the food press.
  6. Collect Slices: Sliced food will fall onto the tray or surface behind the blade.
  7. Power Off: Once slicing is complete, press the power switch to the "OFF" position and wait for the blade to stop completely before removing any remaining food or cleaning.
  8. Unplug: Always unplug the slicer from the outlet after use.

6. Cleaning and Maintenance

CAUTION: Always unplug the slicer before cleaning. The blade is extremely sharp. Handle with care.
