Thank you for choosing the Defiant 180 Degree Motion Security Light. This outdoor motion-sensing security light is designed to provide enhanced safety and energy efficiency for your property. It features a wide 180-degree, 70 ft. motion sensor for reliable activation and is Energy Star qualified. This manual provides detailed instructions for installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your security light.

Safety Information

Please read and understand all instructions before beginning installation. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or other hazards that could cause injury or property damage.

• WARNING: Risk of electric shock. Disconnect power at the fuse or circuit breaker before installing or servicing.
• WARNING: Risk of fire. Use only PAR38 incandescent (dimmable outdoor wet rated) or select PAR38 dimmable LED outdoor rated-wet rated bulbs. Do not exceed 120 watts per bulb.
• Consult a qualified electrician if you are unsure about the installation process.
• Install the fixture in a location suitable for outdoor use, away from flammable materials.
• Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated.
• Operating temperature range: -25°C (-13°F) to +50°C (+120°F).

Setup and Installation

1. Mounting the Fixture

Choose a suitable mounting location on a wall or eave. The motion sensor works best when mounted 6-10 feet above the ground. Ensure the sensor has an unobstructed view of the area you wish to monitor.

1. Turn off power at the circuit breaker or fuse box.
2. Remove the existing fixture (if any) and disconnect wiring.
3. Attach the mounting bracket to the junction box using the provided screws.
4. Pull the electrical wires through the center hole of the mounting bracket.

2. Wiring Connections

Make sure power is still off before proceeding with wiring.

1. Connect the black wire from the fixture to the black (hot) wire from the junction box using a wire nut.
2. Connect the white wire from the fixture to the white (neutral) wire from the junction box using a wire nut.
3. Connect the green or bare copper (ground) wire from the fixture to the ground wire from the junction box using a wire nut.
4. Carefully tuck all wires into the junction box.

3. Securing the Fixture and Installing Bulbs

1. Align the fixture with the mounting bracket and secure it with the provided screws.
2. Install two PAR38 bulbs (up to 120 watts each, not included) into the sockets. Ensure bulbs are outdoor wet-rated.
3. Adjust the swivel arms and light heads to direct the light as desired.
4. Adjust the motion sensor's field of vision using its adjustable head.

Operating Instructions

Once installed, turn on the power at the circuit breaker. The light will enter a warm-up period for approximately 30-60 seconds before becoming fully operational.

Motion Sensor Settings

The motion sensor has adjustable settings, typically located on the bottom or side of the sensor unit.

• Detection Range: Adjust the sensitivity to control the detection distance (up to 70 ft.).
• Time Setting: Select how long the light stays on after motion is detected (e.g., 1 minute, 5 minutes, 20 minutes).
• Dusk-to-Dawn Feature: The light automatically deactivates during daylight hours to conserve energy. It will only activate with motion during nighttime.
• AlertFlash: This feature causes the lights to flash when motion is detected before illuminating to full brightness, providing an additional deterrent.
• DualBrite 2-level lighting: Provides energy-saving accent light at half power and full-power security light when motion is detected. (Note: Some models may not include this feature despite product descriptions.)

Refer to the specific labels on your sensor for exact dial positions and functions.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your security light.

• Cleaning: Periodically wipe the fixture and sensor lens with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt and debris. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
• Bulb Replacement:
  1. Turn off power at the circuit breaker before replacing bulbs.
  2. Allow bulbs to cool completely before handling.
  3. Unscrew the old bulb and screw in a new PAR38 incandescent (dimmable outdoor wet rated) or select PAR38 dimmable LED outdoor rated-wet rated bulb (up to 120 watts).
  4. The bulb-saver feature extends bulb life up to 4 times the life of standard bulbs.
• Inspection: Annually inspect wiring for any signs of wear or damage.
