4. Setup

Power Source:

The EL-145T BL calculator is designed for dual power operation:

  • Solar Power: The calculator primarily operates on solar power when sufficient light is available. Ensure the solar panel (located above the display) is exposed to light.
  • Battery Power: A backup battery (1 x LR-54 or LR44) is included to provide power in low-light conditions.

Battery Installation/Replacement:

  1. Ensure the calculator is turned off or in a well-lit area to utilize solar power.
  2. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the calculator.
  3. Carefully remove the cover.
  4. Insert a new LR-54 or LR44 battery, ensuring the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  5. Replace the battery compartment cover securely.

Note: The calculator may power on automatically once sufficient light or battery power is detected.

5. Operating Instructions

Basic Arithmetic Operations:

Enter numbers and use the standard arithmetic keys (+, -, ×, ÷) followed by the equals key (=) to perform calculations.

  • Subtraction: [Number 1] [-] [Number 2] [=]
  • Multiplication: [Number 1] [×] [Number 2] [=]
  • Division: [Number 1] [÷] [Number 2] [=]

Clear Functions:

  • [CA/C] (All Clear): Clears all entries and memory, resetting the calculator.
  • [CE] (Clear Entry): Clears the last entered number or the current calculation result without affecting previous entries or memory.

Percentage Calculation:

To calculate percentages, use the [%] key.

  • Example: Calculate 15% of 200.
    Enter [200] [×] [15] [%]. The result will be 30.
  • Example: Add 15% to 200.
    Enter [200] [+] [15] [%]. The result will be 230.

Tax Calculation:

The calculator features dedicated keys for tax calculations. First, set the tax rate.

  1. Setting the Tax Rate:
    Enter the tax rate (e.g., [8] for 8%). Press [RATE SET]. The tax rate is now stored.
  2. Adding Tax:
    Enter the amount (e.g., [100]). Press [+TAX]. The display will show the amount with tax added.
  3. Subtracting Tax:
    Enter the amount (e.g., [108]). Press [-TAX]. The display will show the amount with tax removed.
  4. Recalling Tax Rate:
    Press [RATE RECALL] to view the currently set tax rate.

Memory Functions:

The 4-key memory allows you to store and recall values.

  • [M+] (Memory Plus): Adds the displayed value to the memory.
  • [M-] (Memory Minus): Subtracts the displayed value from the memory.
  • [RM] (Recall Memory): Displays the value currently stored in memory.
  • [CM] (Clear Memory): Clears the memory content. (Often combined with RM, pressing RM twice clears memory).

Square Root Calculation:

To calculate the square root of a number, enter the number and then press the [√] key.

  • Example: Calculate the square root of 81.
    Enter [81] [√]. The result will be 9.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the calculator's exterior. For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with water and a mild detergent, then wipe dry immediately. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the calculator in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery Life: The battery life is approximately 2 years when used for 1 hour per day under solar power. Replace the battery when the display becomes dim or erratic in low light.

7. Troubleshooting
