1. Product Overview
BSI pH Down is a liquid product designed to effectively lower and stabilize the pH value of your swimming pool water. Maintaining the correct pH level is crucial for water quality, swimmer comfort, and the efficiency of other pool chemicals.
An ideal pH range for swimming pool water is between 7.0 and 7.6. A pH level that is too high can lead to eye and skin irritation for swimmers, reduce the effectiveness of disinfectants, and cause cloudiness due to lime scale formation. BSI pH Down is non-corrosive and has a long shelf life.

3. Preparation and pH Testing
Before adding BSI pH Down, it is essential to accurately measure your pool's current pH level and determine the volume of your swimming pool.
- Measure Pool Volume: Accurately determine the total volume of water in your swimming pool (in cubic meters or liters). This is crucial for calculating the correct dosage.
- Test pH Level: Use a reliable pool water test kit to measure the current pH value of your pool water. The ideal pH range is 7.0 to 7.6.

4. Operating Instructions: Dosage and Application
Follow these steps to safely and effectively lower your pool's pH level:
- Calculate Dosage: Based on your pool's volume and the current pH reading, determine the amount of BSI pH Down needed. As a general guideline, approximately 20 ml of BSI pH Down per cubic meter (m³) of water will reduce the pH by 0.1. For example, if your pool is 50 m³ and you want to reduce the pH by 0.2, you would need 50 m³ * 20 ml/m³/0.1 pH * 0.2 pH = 200 ml.
- Application: Slowly pour the calculated amount of BSI pH Down directly into the pool water, distributing it evenly over the surface. Avoid pouring it all in one spot.
- Circulation: Ensure your pool's filtration system is running to help distribute the product throughout the water. Allow the water to circulate for at least 2 hours.
- Re-test pH: After 2 hours of circulation, re-test the pH level of your pool water. If the pH is still too high, repeat the dosage and circulation process.

5. Maintenance
Regular monitoring and adjustment of your pool's pH level are essential for ongoing water quality. Test your pool water at least once a week, or more frequently during heavy use or after significant rainfall. Always aim to keep the pH within the ideal range of 7.0 to 7.6.
6. Troubleshooting
- pH not decreasing: Ensure you have accurately measured your pool volume and pH. Re-calculate the dosage and apply again. Check your filtration system is working correctly to ensure proper distribution.
- pH too low (below 7.0): If your pH level drops below 7.0, you will need to use a pH Up product to increase it. BSI offers a pH Up liquid for this purpose.
- Cloudy water: A high pH can contribute to cloudy water. Once the pH is balanced, ensure other water parameters (like alkalinity and sanitizer levels) are also correct. Filtration and backwashing are also important.
