5. Operating Instructions

The EIKON DM585 microphone is designed for straightforward operation. It does not feature an on-off switch.

  1. Positioning: For optimal vocal pickup, position the microphone typically 1 to 6 inches (2.5 to 15 cm) from the sound source (e.g., mouth). Experiment with distance to find the best sound for your voice and environment.
  2. Gain Adjustment: Adjust the input gain on your connected audio device (mixer, interface) to achieve a strong signal without distortion. Monitor your audio levels to prevent clipping.
  3. Feedback Control: Due to its cardioid pattern, the microphone is resistant to feedback. However, always aim the microphone away from speakers or monitors to minimize the chance of feedback.
  4. Usage: Speak or sing directly into the top of the microphone, where the grille is located, for the clearest sound.

6. Maintenance

Proper care will extend the life and performance of your microphone.

  • Storage: Always store the microphone in its included carrying case when not in use. This protects it from dust, moisture, and physical damage.
  • Cleaning: Clean the microphone body with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners, solvents, or abrasive materials, as these can damage the finish or internal components.
  • Handling: Avoid dropping the microphone or subjecting it to strong impacts. Do not expose it to extreme temperatures, high humidity, or direct sunlight for prolonged periods.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No Sound Output
  • Loose or faulty XLR cable connection.
  • Audio device not powered on or input not selected.
  • Input gain on audio device set too low.
  • Check all XLR cable connections at both the microphone and the audio device. Try a different cable if available.
  • Ensure your mixer, amplifier, or interface is powered on and the correct input channel is selected.
  • Gradually increase the input gain on your audio device.
Feedback (High-pitched squeal)
  • Microphone too close to speakers/monitors.
  • System volume/gain too high.
  • Reposition the microphone further away from any speakers or monitors.
  • Reduce the overall volume or input gain on your audio system.
  • Aim the microphone away from speakers.
Distorted Sound
  • Input gain on audio device set too high.
  • Speaking/singing too loudly directly into the microphone.
  • Reduce the input gain on your audio device until distortion is eliminated.
  • Maintain an appropriate distance from the microphone (1-6 inches).
