Setup and Installation

  1. Identify Speargun Type: Determine if your speargun is made of wood or metal.
    • For wood spearguns, use the flat adapter plate.
    • For metal spearguns, use the curved adapter plate.
    • Spearguns with dovetail style accessory mounts (e.g., JBL Reaper Series) do not require adapter plates.
  2. Position the Mounting Base: Place the appropriate adapter plate (if needed) and the mounting base onto the speargun in the desired location. Ensure it does not interfere with the speargun's trigger mechanism or line release.
  3. Secure the Mounting Base: Use the provided anchor screws to firmly attach the mounting base to the speargun. Ensure a secure fit to prevent movement during use.
  4. Attach the Reel: Slide the JBL Profile Line Reel onto the secured mounting base. The reel should click into place or be secured with a locking mechanism, if present.
  5. Spool the Line: Carefully spool approximately 150 feet of JBL shooting line onto the reel. Ensure the line is evenly distributed to prevent tangles and ensure smooth deployment.

Operating Instructions

The JBL Profile Line Reel features a multi-disc drag system designed for controlling large game fish. Proper operation ensures effective line management and successful retrieves.

  1. Adjusting Drag: The drag knob, typically located at the center of the reel, allows you to adjust the tension on the line.
    • Turn clockwise to increase drag tension.
    • Turn counter-clockwise to decrease drag tension.
    • Set the drag to a level that allows the fish to pull line without breaking it, but still provides enough resistance to tire the fish.
  2. Line Deployment: When a fish is shot and attempts to swim away, the reel's drag system will allow the line to deploy smoothly. Ensure there are no obstructions that could snag the line.
  3. Retrieving Line: To retrieve the line, use the handle to manually wind the line back onto the spool. Maintain appropriate drag settings during retrieval to manage any sudden runs by the fish.
