5. Setup & Installation
Follow these steps for proper installation of your motherboard and components.
5.1. CPU Installation
- Open the CPU socket lever and lift the load plate.
- Carefully align the CPU with the socket, ensuring the golden triangle on the CPU matches the triangle on the socket.
- Gently place the CPU into the socket without forcing it.
- Close the load plate and push down the lever to secure the CPU.
- Install the CPU cooler according to its manufacturer's instructions.
5.2. Memory (RAM) Installation
- Open the clips at both ends of the DIMM slot.
- Align the notch on the DDR3 memory module with the key on the DIMM slot.
- Insert the module firmly into the slot until the clips snap into place.
- For dual-channel operation, install memory modules into matching colored slots (e.g., both gray or both black). If using two sticks, try the gray slots first if issues arise with black slots.
5.3. Storage Device Installation
- M.2 SSD: Insert the M.2 SSD into the M.2 socket at an angle, then push it down and secure it with the provided screw.
- SATA Devices: Connect SATA data cables from your storage devices (HDDs/SSDs) to the SATA 6Gb/s or SATA Express ports on the motherboard. Connect power cables from your power supply to the devices.
5.4. Expansion Card Installation
- Align your graphics card or other PCIe expansion card with the desired PCIe slot.
- Press down firmly until the card is seated correctly and the retention clip locks.
- Secure the card to the chassis with a screw.
5.5. Power Connections
- Connect the 24-pin ATX power connector from your power supply to the motherboard.
- Connect the 8-pin ATX 12V power connector (EATX12V) to the motherboard.
- Connect power cables to your graphics card(s) if required.
5.6. Front Panel & Peripheral Connections
- Connect the front panel headers (power switch, reset switch, HDD LED, power LED) to their respective pins on the motherboard. Refer to the motherboard manual for pin assignments.
- Connect front panel USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 headers.
- Connect the front panel audio header.
- Install the Wi-Fi antenna to the rear I/O panel connectors.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1. Initial Boot-up and BIOS/UEFI Configuration
- After assembling your system, connect a monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
- Power on your system. Press the DEL key during startup to enter the UEFI BIOS.
- The ASUS UEFI BIOS offers advanced options and a fast response time. Configure boot order, system time, and other settings as needed.
- Save changes and exit the BIOS to continue with operating system installation.
