3. Setup
3.1 Battery Installation
Each RT-388 walkie talkie requires 4 AAA batteries (not included). Ensure correct polarity when inserting batteries.
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the walkie talkie.
- Open the battery compartment cover.
- Insert 4 AAA batteries, matching the + and - indicators inside the compartment.
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.


4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Power On/Off
To turn the walkie talkie on or off, press and hold the Power button (usually marked with a circle and a vertical line) for 3 seconds. A beep sound will confirm the action.
4.2 Adjusting Volume
Use the Up (▲) or Down (▼) buttons to increase or decrease the volume level.
4.3 Channel Selection
The RT-388 features 22 channels. To change the channel:
- Press the MENU button once. The channel number on the LCD display will start to flash.
- Use the Up (▲) or Down (▼) buttons to select your desired channel.
- Press the TALK button to save the setting and exit the menu.
For clear communication, both walkie talkies must be set to the same channel and CTCSS/DCS code.

4.4 CTCSS/DCS Tones
CTCSS (Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System) and DCS (Digitally Coded Squelch) tones help filter out unwanted conversations on the same channel. To set a tone:
- Press the MENU button twice. The code number will start to flash.
- Use the Up (▲) or Down (▼) buttons to select your desired code.
- Press the TALK button to save the setting.
4.5 VOX Function (Voice Operated Exchange)
VOX allows for hands-free operation. When activated, the walkie talkie will transmit automatically when it detects your voice.
- Press the MENU button three times. The VOX icon and level will flash.
- Use the Up (▲) or Down (▼) buttons to select the VOX sensitivity level (e.g., 1-3, with 1 being most sensitive). Select "OF" to turn VOX off.
