  • Three stereo pairs of individually selectable speaker outputs with independent level controls.
  • A dedicated Cue section with source selection and input/output level control.
  • A large Main level control, accompanied by Main Mute, Mono, and Dim switches with adjustable Dim attenuation.
  • Four high-output stereo headphone amplifiers, each with volume control and independent source selection.
  • A built-in electret-condenser talkback microphone with input-gain control and a Talkback button.

2. Setup and Connections

Proper connection of your Monitor Station V2 is crucial for optimal performance. Ensure all audio equipment is powered off before making connections.

The rear panel provides all necessary connections for power, audio inputs, and audio outputs. Familiarize yourself with the layout before proceeding.

2.2 Power Connection

  • Connect the included 18V DC power supply to the 18V DC input on the rear panel.
  • Plug the power supply into an appropriate AC outlet.
  • Use the Power switch to turn the unit on or off.

2.3 Audio Inputs

The Monitor Station V2 offers multiple input options:

  • Inputs (ST1, ST2): Connect your main stereo audio sources (e.g., audio interface outputs) to the balanced 1/4-inch TRS jacks labeled ST1 and ST2.
  • AUX In: Use the stereo RCA or 1/8-inch (3.5mm) input for connecting consumer-level devices like media players or smartphones.
  • S/PDIF In: Connect a digital audio source via the S/PDIF coaxial input.

2.4 Speaker Outputs

Connect up to three pairs of active studio monitors or power amplifiers to the balanced 1/4-inch TRS jacks labeled Speaker A, Speaker B, and Speaker C. Each output pair has an individual level trim control on the rear panel for calibration.

2.5 Line Outputs

  • Main: These balanced 1/4-inch TRS outputs mirror the main speaker output signal, useful for connecting to an external recording device or another monitoring system.
  • Cue: These balanced 1/4-inch TRS outputs provide the signal selected for the Cue mix, typically used for sending a separate mix to musicians' headphone amplifiers.

3. Operation

The Monitor Station V2 provides intuitive controls for managing your studio's audio flow.

The front panel is divided into sections for Cue Source, Main Source, Speaker Select, and Talkback functions.

3.2 Main Monitoring Section

  • Main Source Select (ST1, ST2, AUX): Press these buttons to select which input source is sent to the main speaker outputs. The selected source will illuminate.
  • Main Level: The large central knob controls the overall output level of the selected main source to the active speaker outputs.
  • Speaker Select (A, B, C): Press these buttons to choose which pair of connected speakers receives the main output signal. Multiple pairs can be active simultaneously.
  • Mono: Engages mono summing for the main output, useful for checking phase compatibility.
  • Mute: Silences the main speaker outputs.
  • Dim: Reduces the main speaker output level by an adjustable amount (controlled by the rear-panel trim pot). Useful for temporarily lowering volume without losing your main level setting.

3.3 Cue Monitoring and Headphone Amplifiers

  • Cue Source Select (ST1, ST2, AUX): These buttons determine which input source is sent to the Cue output and the headphone amplifiers.
  • Cue Output Level: Controls the output level of the dedicated Cue output.
  • Headphone Amplifiers (1-4): Each of the four headphone outputs has an independent level control and a source select button (Main or Cue), allowing musicians to monitor either the main mix or a dedicated cue mix.

3.4 Talkback Function

  • Talkback Mic: The built-in electret-condenser microphone allows communication with musicians through their headphones.
  • Talkback Gain: Adjusts the input sensitivity of the talkback microphone.
  • Talk Button: Press and hold to activate the talkback microphone. The talkback signal is routed to the Cue output and all headphone amplifiers.

4. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your PreSonus Monitor Station V2, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, or waxes, as these can damage the finish and controls.
  • Environment: Operate the unit in a clean, dry environment away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, moisture, or dust. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.
  • Power Supply: Always use the original power supply provided with the unit. Using an incorrect power supply can cause damage and void your warranty.
  • Cable Management: Ensure all cables are neatly organized and not under tension to prevent accidental disconnections or damage to ports.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Monitor Station V2, consult the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Audio Output:
    • Verify the power supply is connected and the unit is powered on.
    • Check that the correct input source (ST1, ST2, AUX, S/PDIF) is selected for the Main or Cue section.
    • Ensure the Main Level knob is turned up and the Mute or Dim buttons are not engaged.
    • Confirm that the correct speaker output (A, B, or C) is selected and its rear-panel trim control is not set to minimum.
    • Check all audio cables for proper connection and integrity.
  • Distorted Audio:
    • Reduce the input level from your source device to prevent clipping.
    • Adjust the Main Level knob on the Monitor Station V2.
    • Ensure the rear-panel speaker trim controls are set appropriately for your monitors.
  • Headphones Not Working:
    • Verify the headphone amplifier's volume knob is turned up.
    • Check that the correct source (Main or Cue) is selected for the headphone output.
    • Ensure the headphones are properly plugged in and functional.
  • Talkback Mic Not Working:
    • Press and hold the Talk button.
    • Adjust the Talkback Gain knob.
