Safety Information

  • Always disconnect power to the pump before performing any maintenance or cleaning.
  • Ensure all electrical connections are waterproof and comply with local electrical codes.
  • Do not operate the pump dry. Ensure it is fully submerged in water during operation.
  • Keep children and pets away from the water feature during installation and operation.
  • Wear appropriate safety gear, such as gloves and eye protection, during installation.

Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to install your cascading falls kit:

  1. Site Selection: Choose a level location for your waterfall. Consider proximity to an electrical outlet and visibility from your desired viewing areas.
  2. Excavation: Dig a basin for the Mini Pump Canyon and Small Basin Matrix. The basin should be deep enough to fully submerge the pump and matrix, and wide enough to accommodate the liner. Create a gradual slope for the waterfall stream bed.
  3. Liner Placement: Lay the 8' x 15' PondGard Rubber Liner over the excavated area, ensuring it covers the entire basin and extends up the sides of the stream bed. Smooth out wrinkles and secure the edges with rocks or soil.
  4. Pump Canyon and Basin Matrix Installation: Place the Mini Pump Canyon and Small Basin Matrix in the deepest part of the basin. Connect the Mag-Drive Pump to the outlet of the pump canyon.
  5. Spillway Box Placement: Position the 20" Wide Cascade Spillway Box at the top of your desired waterfall location. Ensure it is level and securely supported.
  6. Hose Connection: Connect the pump's discharge to the inlet of the spillway box using appropriate tubing (not explicitly listed as included, but implied). Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.
  7. Rock and Gravel Placement: Carefully arrange rocks and gravel around the liner to create the waterfall's aesthetic and secure the liner. Ensure water flows smoothly over the rocks and into the basin.
  8. Filling and Testing: Fill the basin with water. Plug in the pump and check for proper water flow and any leaks. Adjust rocks and liner as needed.

Operating Instructions

Once installed and filled with water, operating your cascading falls kit is straightforward:

  • Initial Start-up: Ensure the pump is fully submerged and all connections are secure. Plug the pump into a grounded electrical outlet. Water should begin flowing from the spillway box.
  • Water Level: Regularly check the water level in the basin. Evaporation will occur, especially during warm weather. Refill as necessary to keep the pump fully submerged.
  • Continuous Operation: The pump is designed for continuous operation. You may use a timer (not included) if you wish to operate the waterfall only during specific hours.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your cascading falls kit.

Routine Cleaning:

  • Pump Cleaning: Periodically disconnect the pump and clean any debris from the intake screen and impeller. This prevents clogs and maintains flow rate.
  • Spillway Box: Remove any leaves or debris that accumulate in the spillway box to ensure an even water flow.
  • Basin and Liner: Remove any large debris from the basin. The included 8 oz. Pond Cleaner and Muck Buster can be used to help break down organic sludge and maintain water clarity. Follow product instructions for dosage.
  • Water Quality: Monitor water quality. If algae becomes an issue, consider using appropriate pond treatments (not included) or increasing filtration.

Winterization:

In regions with freezing temperatures, proper winterization is crucial to prevent damage.

  • Disconnect Power: Unplug the pump from the electrical outlet.
  • Remove Pump: Remove the pump from the basin, clean it thoroughly, and store it in a frost-free location submerged in a bucket of water to keep seals moist.
  • Drain Water: If possible, drain the water from the basin and spillway box to prevent ice formation.
  • Cover: Cover the basin and spillway box with a net or tarp to prevent debris accumulation during winter.
