Setup Instructions

  1. Connect Hoses:

Attach the Super Flex hoses to your TIG welding machine and water cooler. Ensure all connections are secure to prevent leaks and ensure proper gas and water flow. The kit includes separate lines for water in, water out, and argon gas.

  2. Install Torch Head:

Select the desired torch head (45°, 90°, or 180°) based on your welding application and access requirements. Gently screw the chosen head onto the torch body until it is finger-tight. Avoid over-tightening.

  3. Insert Collet and Tungsten:

Choose the appropriate collet (.040", 1/16", or 3/32") for your tungsten electrode size. Insert the collet into the torch head, then slide the tungsten electrode through the collet. Ensure the tungsten is clean and properly ground.

  4. Adjust Tungsten Stick-Out:

Use the included Tungsten Stick-Out Gauge to set the desired length of the tungsten electrode protruding from the nozzle. Once set, use the Tungsten Stick-Out Wrench to tighten the collet, securing the tungsten in place. Proper stick-out is crucial for arc stability and gas coverage.

  5. Attach Nozzle:

Place either a clear Pyrex cup or an alumina cup over the collet body and tungsten. Ensure it is seated firmly. The clear Pyrex cups offer superior visibility of the weld puddle.

  6. Verify Connections:

Before operating, double-check all gas, water, and power connections for tightness and proper routing. Ensure no kinks in the hoses that could restrict flow.

Operating Instructions

The CK MR140 Micro TIG Torch is designed for precision welding. Follow standard TIG welding safety procedures and practices.

  • Power Settings: Set your welding machine to the appropriate amperage for your material and tungsten size. The MR140 is rated for up to 140 amps (DC) with water cooling.
  • Water Cooling: Ensure your water cooler is operational and circulating coolant through the torch. The water cooling jacket is essential for maintaining performance and preventing overheating, especially at higher amperages or during extended use.
  • Gas Flow: Set your argon gas flow rate according to your welding parameters. The clear glass nozzles provide excellent gas coverage, but proper flow is still critical to prevent contamination.
  • Arc Initiation: Use a high-frequency start or lift-arc method to initiate the arc. The low-profile design and clear nozzle allow for precise arc placement.
  • Welding Technique: Utilize the torch's small size and interchangeable heads to access tight joints and perform intricate welds. Maintain a consistent arc length and travel speed for optimal results.

Maintenance

  • Nozzle Cleaning/Replacement: Regularly inspect clear Pyrex and alumina cups for cracks, discoloration, or spatter buildup. Clean as needed or replace if damaged to ensure proper gas flow and visibility.
  • Collet and Collet Body Inspection: Check collets and collet bodies for wear or deformation. Replace if they no longer securely hold the tungsten electrode.
  • Hose and Connection Check: Periodically inspect the Super Flex hoses for cuts, abrasions, or leaks. Ensure all brass fittings remain tight.
  • Tungsten Electrode Sharpening: Maintain a sharp and clean tungsten electrode for stable arc and quality welds. Re-grind or replace as necessary.
  • Water Cooler Maintenance: Follow the maintenance schedule for your water cooler, including checking coolant levels and filter cleaning, to ensure efficient torch cooling.
