5. Cleaning and Maintenance
Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your coffee maker.
Daily Cleaning:
- Always unplug the appliance and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
- Remove the used paper filter and discard coffee grounds.
- Wash the filter basket and thermal carafe with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. The Cromargan stainless steel is easy to clean.
- Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
- Do not immerse the main unit in water or any other liquid.
Descaling:
Depending on water hardness and frequency of use, mineral deposits (limescale) can build up in your coffee maker. Descale regularly (e.g., every 2-4 months) to maintain performance.
- Prepare a descaling solution according to the descaler manufacturer's instructions (e.g., white vinegar and water, or a commercial descaling agent).
- Pour the descaling solution into the water reservoir.
- Place the empty thermal carafe on the warming plate.
- Start a brewing cycle. Allow about half of the solution to brew through, then switch off the appliance and let it stand for 15-20 minutes to allow the solution to work.
- Switch the appliance back on and let the remaining solution brew through.
- After descaling, run at least two full cycles with fresh, clean water to rinse out any residual descaling solution.
