4. Setup
4.1. Battery Installation
- Ensure the transceiver is powered off.

5. Operating the Transceiver
5.1. Power On/Off
To power on the transceiver, press and hold the [POWER] button located on the side of the unit. To power off, press and hold the [POWER] button again until the unit shuts down.
5.2. Basic Operation
Use the main dial on top of the unit to adjust the volume and select frequencies. The keypad allows for direct frequency entry and access to various functions via the icon-driven menu.
5.3. Communication (COM Radio)
The FTA-550 provides full communication capabilities on the Aircraft Communications Band. Tune to the desired frequency using the keypad or dial. Press the [PTT] button on the side to transmit and release to receive.
5.4. Navigation (VOR, ILS, GPS)
The transceiver includes VOR and ILS navigation features. Access the NAV band through the menu to utilize these functions. The icon-driven menu system provides on-screen navigation guidance. The unit also features an internal GPS for setting and tracking waypoints.
