Model: Drop D3 | Brand: Kestrel

1. Introduction

The Kestrel Drop D3 is a compact, wireless data logger designed to accurately measure and record environmental conditions. 3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Data Monitoring

  • Once connected to the Kestrel LiNK app, the device will continuously log temperature, humidity, and pressure data.
  • Real-time readings are displayed on the app interface.
  • The device stores data internally, which can be downloaded to the app for historical analysis and reporting.

3.2 Understanding Pressure Readings

The Kestrel Drop D3 provides station pressure, which is the atmospheric pressure measured at the device's current altitude. It does not provide barometric pressure, which is station pressure adjusted to sea level. For applications requiring sea-level adjusted pressure, manual calculation or an external reference is necessary.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Battery Replacement

When the battery level is low, the Kestrel LiNK app will indicate this. Replace the CR2032 battery following the steps outlined in Section 2.1. To conserve battery life when not in use for extended periods, it is recommended to remove the battery.

4.2 Cleaning

Wipe the exterior of the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Ensure the device is dry before re-use or storage.

4.3 Storage

Store the Kestrel Drop D3 in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent leakage.

5. Troubleshooting

  • Device not connecting via Bluetooth: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device and the Kestrel LiNK app is open. Move closer to the Drop D3 as Bluetooth range can be limited. Check if the battery is properly installed and has sufficient charge.
  • Inaccurate readings: Allow the device 5-10 minutes to stabilize in a new environment before taking critical readings, especially after significant temperature or humidity changes. Ensure the sensors are not obstructed or dirty.
  • Rapid battery drain: The Kestrel Drop D3 does not have an on/off switch. It is designed for continuous logging. If extended periods of non-use are anticipated, remove the battery to prevent unnecessary drain.
  • Data not logging: Verify that the device is connected to the Kestrel LiNK app and that logging is enabled within the app settings. Ensure sufficient internal memory is available (though typically ample for standard use).
