Operating Instructions
The Steelcase Gesture chair offers intuitive controls for personalized comfort. All primary adjustment controls are located on the right side of the chair for easy access.
1. Seat Height Adjustment
To adjust the seat height, locate the paddle-shaped lever on the right side, beneath the seat. Lift your body weight slightly off the seat and pull the lever upwards to raise the seat. To lower the seat, remain seated and pull the lever upwards. Release the lever when the desired height is reached. The standard height range is 16" to 21".
2. Seat Depth Adjustment
To adjust the seat depth, locate the round knob on the right side, beneath the seat, towards the front. Turn the knob away from you to extend the seat depth and towards you to retract it. This adjustment helps relieve pressure on the back of your legs and improves circulation. Aim for 2-3 inches between the edge of the seat and the back of your knees.
3. Armrest Adjustments
The Gesture chair features fully adjustable 360-degree armrests. Each armrest has a single release button located underneath the arm cap. Press this button to adjust the armrest height. The arm caps can also be pushed in or out to adjust width, and pivoted to change their angle, allowing for precise positioning to support your arms during various activities.
4. Lumbar Support Adjustment
The chair includes adjustable lumbar support. To adjust the lumbar firmness, locate the round knob on the right side, beneath the seat, towards the back. Turn the knob forward for more resistance and backward for less resistance. To adjust the height of the lumbar support, grasp the handles on both sides of the backrest and slide them up or down to your desired position.
5. Recline Tension and Lock
To adjust the recline tension, locate the large round knob on the right side, beneath the seat, towards the back. Turn it forward for more resistance and backward for less resistance. The chair also features a 4-position recline lock. Use the lever next to the recline tension knob to set the desired recline limit or lock the chair in an upright position.
