Setup

1. Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully unpack the Dominion KX III switch and all accessories. Verify that all components listed in the packing list are present and undamaged. Report any missing or damaged items to your vendor immediately.

2. Rack Mounting

The DKX3-216 is designed for standard 19-inch rack mounting. Use the provided rack mount kit to secure the unit in your server rack. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit to prevent overheating.

3. Power Connection

Connect the provided power cords to the dual power inputs on the rear of the switch and then to separate, grounded power outlets. The dual power supplies provide redundancy for continuous operation.

4. Network Connection

Connect Ethernet cables from the LAN1 and LAN2 ports on the rear of the switch to your network switch or router. It is recommended to use both LAN ports for network redundancy.

5. Connecting Servers/Computers

Connect KVM cables (VGA/DVI, USB, audio) from your servers or computers to the numbered KVM ports on the rear of the DKX3-216. Ensure each server is connected to a unique KVM port.

6. Local Console Connection (Optional)

If using a local console, connect a DVI monitor, USB keyboard, and USB mouse to the "LOCAL USER" ports on the rear of the switch.

7. Initial Configuration

Power on the switch. Access the initial configuration via the local console or by connecting to the default IP address (refer to the quick setup guide for default IP and login credentials). Configure network settings, user accounts, and KVM port assignments as needed.

1. Remote Access

To access the KVM switch remotely, open a web browser and enter the IP address or hostname of the Dominion KX III. Log in with your credentials. The web interface provides access to all connected servers.

2. Server Selection

From the web interface, select the desired server from the list of connected devices. This will open a remote KVM session, allowing you to view and control the server's console.

3. Virtual Media

The Dominion KX III supports virtual media, allowing you to mount ISO images or local drives to remote servers. This feature is essential for software installation, operating system deployment, and diagnostics.

4. Power Control

If integrated with Raritan Power Distribution Units (PDUs), the Dominion KX III can provide remote power cycling and control of connected servers.

5. Security Features

Utilize the advanced security features, including strong encryption (AES, FIPS 140-2), LDAP/RADIUS/Active Directory integration, and customizable user permissions, to secure your remote access.

Maintenance

1. Firmware Updates

Regularly check the Raritan support website for the latest firmware updates. Applying firmware updates ensures optimal performance, security, and access to new features. Follow the provided instructions carefully during the update process.

2. Cleaning

Keep the unit clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols directly on the unit.

3. Environmental Conditions

Ensure the operating environment maintains appropriate temperature and humidity levels as specified in the product's technical specifications. Proper airflow around the unit is crucial for long-term reliability.

4. Cable Management

Periodically inspect all connected cables (KVM, network, power) for wear or damage. Ensure cables are neatly organized and secured to prevent accidental disconnections or damage.

Troubleshooting
