The Ohaus Ranger 3000 features a robust design suitable for industrial environments. Key components include:

  • Weighing Platform: Stainless steel, durable and easy to clean.
  • Display: Three backlit LCD displays for Weight, Piece Weight, and Count.
  • Keypad: Numeric keypad for data entry and function keys for various operations (e.g., Sample, Tare, On/Zero, Print, Menu, APW).
  • Level Indicator: For ensuring proper setup.
  • Adjustable Feet: For leveling the scale.
  • Power Input: For AC adapter and rechargeable battery.
  • RS232 Port: For connectivity to external devices.

Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the scale from its packaging. Retain all packaging materials for future transport or storage.
  2. Placement: Place the scale on a firm, stable, and level surface, away from vibrations, drafts, and direct heat sources.
  3. Leveling: Adjust the four adjustable feet until the bubble in the level indicator is centered. This ensures accurate weighing.
  4. Power Connection: Connect the supplied AC adapter to the power input on the rear of the scale and plug it into a suitable power outlet. The internal rechargeable battery will begin charging. The scale can operate on battery power for over 200 hours when fully charged.
  5. Initial Power On: Press the ON/ZERO button to turn on the scale. Allow a few seconds for the scale to stabilize and perform its self-test.

Operating Instructions

Weighing Mode

  1. Ensure the scale is level and stable.
  2. Press the ON/ZERO button to zero the display if necessary.
  3. Place the item to be weighed on the center of the weighing platform.
  4. Read the stable weight value displayed in the 'Weight' window.
  5. To tare a container, place the empty container on the platform and press the TARE button. The display will show zero, and you can then add the material to be weighed.

Parts Counting Mode

The Ranger 3000 excels in precise parts counting. It uses Average Piece Weight (APW) for calculation.

  1. Entering Counting Mode: Ensure the scale is in weighing mode and zeroed.
  2. Sampling:
    • Place a known quantity of items (e.g., 10, 20, 50, 100) on the platform.
    • Enter the quantity using the numeric keypad.
    • Press the SAMPLE button. The scale will calculate the Average Piece Weight (APW) and display the count in the 'Count' window.
  3. Counting: Once the APW is established, you can add more items to the platform, and the 'Count' window will display the total number of pieces.
  4. APW Recalculation: The scale features automatic APW recalculation for improved accuracy with varying sample sizes.
  5. Low APW Alert: The scale will alert you if the Average Piece Weight is too low for accurate counting.

Checkweighing/Checkcounting

This function allows you to check if a batch of items falls within a predefined target range (low and high limits).

  1. Access the menu to set the desired low and high limits for weight or count.
  2. Place items on the platform. The scale will indicate if the quantity is within, below, or above the set limits.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Clean the scale regularly with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the scale in water. Ensure the scale is unplugged before cleaning.
  • Battery Care: For optimal battery life, fully charge the battery before first use. If the scale is stored for extended periods, charge the battery periodically (e.g., every 3 months) to prevent deep discharge.
  • Calibration: While the scale is factory calibrated, periodic calibration may be required depending on usage and local regulations. Refer to the full technical manual for calibration procedures or contact Ohaus service.
