4. Operating Modes
4.1 Router Mode
In Router Mode, the TripMate creates its own private Wi-Fi network. This is useful when you need to share a single wired internet connection wirelessly or create a local network for file sharing among devices.
- Connect an Ethernet cable from your modem or main router's LAN port to the TripMate's WAN/LAN port.
- The TripMate will broadcast its Wi-Fi network, allowing your devices to connect and access the internet.
4.2 Bridge Mode (Wi-Fi Repeater)
Bridge Mode allows the TripMate to connect to an existing Wi-Fi network and extend its range or share that connection with multiple devices, especially useful in hotels or public Wi-Fi hotspots that limit the number of connected devices.
- Connect to the TripMate's Wi-Fi network as described in Section 3.3.
- Access the web management interface (http://10.10.10.254).
- Navigate to the "Network" or "Internet" settings and select "Bridge Mode" or "Wi-Fi Repeater".
- Scan for available Wi-Fi networks and select the one you wish to connect to. Enter its password if required.
- The TripMate will then connect to the external Wi-Fi network and provide internet access to all devices connected to the TripMate's own Wi-Fi network.
4.3 Access Point (AP) Mode
In AP Mode, the TripMate converts a wired internet connection into a wireless one. This is ideal for situations where only a wired connection is available, but you need Wi-Fi for your devices.
- Connect an Ethernet cable from a wired internet source (e.g., hotel Ethernet port) to the TripMate's WAN/LAN port.
- Configure the TripMate to AP Mode via the web management interface.
- The TripMate will then broadcast a Wi-Fi network, allowing your wireless devices to connect and access the internet.
5. File Management and Sharing
The TripMate allows you to connect a USB storage device (USB flash drive or external hard drive) and share its contents wirelessly with connected devices.
5.1 Connecting a USB Storage Device
Insert your USB flash drive or external hard drive into the USB port on the TripMate. Ensure the drive is formatted in a compatible file system (FAT32, NTFS, exFAT).

5.2 Accessing Files
Files can be accessed via the HooToo TripMate mobile app (available for iOS and Android) or through the web management interface.
- Using the Mobile App: Download and install the "HooToo TripMate" app from your device's app store. Connect your mobile device to the TripMate's Wi-Fi. Open the app, and it will automatically detect the connected USB storage, allowing you to browse, stream, and manage files.
- Using the Web Interface: Connect to the TripMate's Wi-Fi and navigate to http://10.10.10.254 in your web browser. Log in, and you will find a file browser section to access the USB drive.
5.3 DLNA Server Functionality
The TripMate can act as a DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) server, allowing compatible devices (Smart TVs, media players, game consoles) on the same network to stream media directly from the connected USB drive.
- Ensure DLNA is enabled in the TripMate's web management interface (usually under "Settings" or "Media Server").
- On your DLNA-compatible device, look for media servers or network devices. The TripMate should appear as a source.
- Browse and play your media files directly from the USB drive.
6. Network Configuration
It is recommended to customize your TripMate's Wi-Fi settings for security and ease of use.
6.1 Changing Wi-Fi SSID and Password
- Access the web management interface (http://10.10.10.254).
- Navigate to "Wireless Settings" or "Wi-Fi".
- Change the "SSID" (network name) to a unique name.
- Change the "Password" or "Security Key" to a strong, memorable password.
- Save your changes. You will need to reconnect your devices to the new Wi-Fi network with the updated password.
6.2 Changing Admin Password
For security, change the default admin password for the web management interface.
- Access the web management interface.
- Go to "System Tools" or "Management".
- Locate the option to change the "Login Password" or "Admin Password".
- Enter the old password ("admin") and then your new, strong password twice.
- Save changes.

7.1 Firmware Updates
Periodically check the HooToo official website for firmware updates. Firmware updates can improve performance, add new features, and fix bugs.
- Download the latest firmware file from the official HooToo support page.

- Navigate to "System Tools" > "Firmware Upgrade".
- Upload the downloaded firmware file and follow the on-screen instructions. Do not power off the device during the upgrade process.

A factory reset will revert all settings to their default values. This can be useful for troubleshooting or preparing the device for new ownership.
- Software Reset: Access the web management interface, go to "System Tools" > "Factory Defaults" or "Restore".
- Hardware Reset: With the device powered on, use a paperclip or a thin object to press and hold the reset button (located in a small pinhole) for approximately 10 seconds until the indicator lights flash. Release the button, and the device will restart with factory settings.
