Model: OR-CR-209

1. Product Overview

The ORNO CR-209 is an outdoor twilight switch with an integrated timer, designed to automatically control lighting based on ambient light levels. Its IP44 rating ensures resistance to weather, making it suitable for various outdoor and humid indoor environments. It can handle loads up to 1200W and operates on a standard 230V power supply.

  • IP44 Weather Resistant: Suitable for outdoor use in gardens, terraces, balconies, as well as covered but humid areas like cellars or workshops.
  • Integrated Timer: Allows the device to operate for a user-defined number of hours after dusk or throughout the night.
  • High Load Capacity: Supports lighting systems up to 1200W.
  • Standard 230V Operation: No additional transformer required.

2. Important Safety Information

WARNING: Connection and all work on electrical installations must be carried out by a qualified electrician. Improper installation can lead to electric shock, fire, or damage to the device. Always disconnect power before installation or maintenance.

  • Ensure the power supply is disconnected before any installation or wiring.
  • Do not exceed the maximum load capacity of 1200W.
  • The device is IP44 rated for weather resistance, but it should not be submerged in water.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

3. Installation and Setup

3.1 Mounting the Device

  1. Choose a suitable mounting location. The device should be mounted on a flat surface, ensuring the light sensor is exposed to ambient light and not obstructed by eaves, trees, or other objects that might cast shadows. Avoid direct artificial light sources (e.g., streetlights) that could interfere with its operation.
  2. Mark the drilling points using the device's mounting holes.
  3. Drill holes and insert appropriate wall plugs if necessary.
  4. Secure the device to the surface using screws.

3.2 Wiring Instructions

Important: All wiring must be performed by a qualified electrician with the power supply disconnected.

  • Open the device casing carefully to access the wiring terminals.
  • Connect the 230V AC power supply to the designated input terminals (typically marked L for Live and N for Neutral).
  • Connect the load (e.g., outdoor lamp) to the designated output terminals (typically marked L' for Switched Live and N for Neutral).
  • Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated.
  • Close the device casing, ensuring a tight seal for IP44 protection.

4. Operation and Settings

The ORNO CR-209 features two adjustable dials for controlling its operation: LUX sensitivity and Timer duration.

4.1 LUX Sensitivity Adjustment

The LUX dial (marked with a sun and moon icon) controls the ambient light level at which the switch activates. Turning the dial towards the "moon" symbol decreases the LUX sensitivity, meaning the light will turn on when it's darker. Turning it towards the "sun" symbol increases sensitivity, causing the light to turn on when it's still relatively bright.

  • To set: Rotate the LUX dial to your desired activation threshold. Test the setting by covering the sensor or waiting for natural light changes.
  • The device typically has a delay of 30-40 seconds before switching on or off to prevent false triggers from transient light changes (e.g., car headlights).

4.2 Timer Duration Adjustment

The TIMER dial (marked with numbers 1-8 and "DUSK TO DAWN") sets how long the connected light remains on after activation. The available settings typically range from 1 to 8 hours, or a "Dusk to Dawn" mode for continuous operation until morning.

  • To set: Rotate the TIMER dial to the desired number of hours (e.g., 4 for 4 hours) or select "DUSK TO DAWN" for continuous operation.
  • If set to a specific hour duration, the light will turn off automatically after that period, regardless of ambient light.

5. Maintenance

The ORNO CR-209 twilight switch requires minimal maintenance. Regular checks can ensure optimal performance.

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the light sensor window with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt, dust, or debris that might obstruct light detection. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
  • Inspection: Annually inspect the device for any signs of physical damage, loose wiring, or water ingress. Ensure the casing remains securely closed.
  • Environmental Factors: Ensure that no new obstructions (e.g., growing plants, new structures) are blocking the light sensor.
  • Power Disconnection: Always disconnect the main power supply before performing any cleaning or inspection that requires opening the device.

6. Troubleshooting
