3. Setup

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove the electric burner from its packaging. Retain packaging for future storage or transport.
  2. Placement: Place the burner on a stable, level, and heat-resistant surface. Ensure there is adequate clearance around the unit for ventilation. Do not place it on or near flammable materials.
  3. Initial Use (Burn-off): During the first few uses, a slight odor or smoke may be emitted. This is normal and is due to the protective coating on the heating element burning off. Operate the burner in a well-ventilated area for approximately 15-20 minutes on the highest setting during its first use to allow this coating to dissipate.
  4. Power Connection: Ensure the control knob is in the 'OFF' position before plugging the unit into a standard 120V AC electrical outlet.

4. Operating Instructions

The NESCO SB-01 Electric Burner is designed for straightforward operation.

  1. Prepare Cookware: Place your flat-bottomed pot or pan directly onto the cast iron heating plate.
  2. Adjust Temperature: Turn the thermostat control knob clockwise from the 'OFF' position to your desired heat setting. The pilot light will illuminate, indicating that the burner is heating.
  3. Heating Cycle: The burner will cycle on and off to maintain the selected temperature. The pilot light will turn off when the desired temperature is reached and turn back on when heating resumes.
  4. Cooking: Monitor your food and adjust the temperature as needed.
  5. Turning Off: To turn off the unit, first turn the thermostat control knob counter-clockwise to the minimum heat setting, then continue turning it to the 'OFF' position. The pilot light will extinguish. Unplug the unit from the wall outlet when not in use.

Important Note: Ensure the thermostat control knob is turned to the minimum heat setting before turning it to 'OFF' to ensure the unit completely deactivates.

5. Maintenance

Proper care and maintenance will extend the life of your NESCO SB-01 Electric Burner.

  1. Cool Down: Always allow the burner to cool completely before cleaning or storing. The cast iron plate retains heat for a significant period after use.
  2. Cleaning the Heating Plate: For the cast iron plate, wipe with a damp cloth. For stubborn food residue, a mild abrasive cleaner designed for cast iron can be used, followed by thorough rinsing and drying. To prevent rust, apply a thin layer of cooking oil (e.g., flaxseed oil) to the cast iron plate after cleaning and drying, similar to seasoning cast iron cookware.
  3. Cleaning the Housing: Wipe the stainless steel housing with a soft, damp cloth. For tougher stains, use a non-abrasive stainless steel cleaner. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive pads that could scratch the surface.
  4. Do Not Immerse: Never immerse the burner unit, cord, or plug in water or any other liquid.
  5. Storage: Store the cooled and cleaned burner in a dry place.
