3. Operating Instructions

Preparing the Material

Proper material preparation is crucial for optimal HVLP spraying. Most coatings will require thinning to achieve the correct viscosity for spraying. Consult the coating manufacturer's recommendations for thinning ratios. Strain all materials before pouring them into the cup to prevent clogs.

Filling the Cup

Unscrew the cup from the spray gun. Pour the prepared and strained material into the 1-quart cup, ensuring not to overfill. Reattach the cup securely to the spray gun.

Adjusting the Spray Gun

Spraying Technique

Maintain a consistent distance (typically 6-8 inches) from the surface being sprayed. Move the gun at a steady, even pace, overlapping each pass by approximately 50%. Always trigger the gun after starting your pass and release before ending it to prevent uneven application at the start and end of strokes.

4. Maintenance and Cleaning

Proper cleaning and maintenance are essential for the longevity and optimal performance of your E5011 spray gun. Due to its marine-grade stainless steel components, it offers excellent resistance to various materials.

Daily Cleaning

  1. After each use, empty any remaining material from the cup.
  2. Pour a small amount of appropriate cleaning solvent (e.g., water for water-based paints, lacquer thinner for lacquer) into the cup.
  3. Spray the solvent through the gun until it runs clear.
  4. Remove the aircap and clean it thoroughly with a brush and solvent.
  5. Wipe down the exterior of the gun and cup.

Thorough Cleaning and Disassembly

Periodically, or when changing material types, a more thorough cleaning is recommended:

  1. Perform daily cleaning steps.
  2. Remove the aircap, fluid nozzle, and needle. Use the provided wrench for the fluid nozzle.
  3. Clean all disassembled parts using appropriate solvent and cleaning brushes. Pay close attention to the fluid passages and air holes.
  4. Do not use metal objects to clean the fluid nozzle or aircap holes, as this can damage them.
  5. Reassemble the gun, ensuring all parts are correctly seated and tightened.

Lubrication

Apply a small amount of Apollo Sprayers gun lube (included sample) to the needle packing and trigger pivot points as needed to ensure smooth operation.

Storage

Store the clean and dry spray gun in a safe, dry place, away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight. Keep the original packaging for protection.
