Operating Instructions
Once installed, the UltraKlean filter operates continuously to maintain water quality. The filtration process involves mechanical and biological media, followed by UV clarification.

UV Clarifier Operation:
The integrated UV clarifier helps eliminate green water algae. The control panel allows you to adjust the UV bulb's operating time to conserve energy and extend bulb life.

- UV Time Settings: Use the 'Select UV Time' button to choose between 6, 12, or 24 hours of UV operation per day. This feature helps optimize bulb life and energy consumption.
- UV Clarifying Indicator: A blue LED light indicates when the UV clarifier is active.
Maintenance
The UltraKlean filter features a convenient self-cleaning backwash system, eliminating the need to open the filter for routine cleaning.
Backwash Cleaning Procedure:
- Monitor Clean Indicator: The control panel includes a 'Clean' indicator light (red/yellow LED) that signals when it's time to perform a backwash.
- Initiate Backwash: Turn the knob at the top of the filter to the "CLEAN" setting. This reverses the water flow and agitates the biological media, dislodging trapped debris.
- Discharge Waste: Dirty water will be expelled through the backwash discharge hose. Continue until the water runs clear.
- Reset Filter: Turn the knob back to the "FILTER" setting. Press the 'Reset Clean' button on the control panel to reset the indicator.
This process typically takes less than 5 minutes and should be performed as indicated by the 'Clean' light or when water flow significantly decreases.
Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your UltraKlean filter.
- Green Water Persists: Ensure the UV clarifier is operating for an adequate duration (e.g., 24 hours initially for severe cases). Check if the UV bulb needs replacement (typically annually). Verify proper water flow through the filter.
- Reduced Water Flow: This often indicates the filter media is clogged. Perform a backwash cleaning as described in the Maintenance section. Ensure your pump is operating correctly and is appropriately sized for your pond and filter.
- Leaking Connections: Check all hose clamps and fittings for tightness. Ensure O-rings are properly seated and not damaged.
- UV Light Not On: Check the power connection and the UV Clarifying indicator light on the control panel. If the bulb is old, it may need replacement.
