1. Setup

Proper setup is crucial for optimal performance of your SVS PB-2000 Subwoofer. Follow these steps to integrate the subwoofer into your home theater system.

1.1 Unboxing

The SVS PB-2000 Subwoofer is double-boxed with protective padding. Carefully open the outer box, then the inner box. Remove all packaging materials, including the protective plastic bag and foam inserts.

1.2 Placement

Place the subwoofer in a location that allows for optimal bass distribution in your listening area. Experiment with different positions to find the best acoustic balance. The subwoofer features a robust Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) cabinet construction and screw-in rubber feet for stability.

1.3 Connections

Connect the subwoofer to your audio system using the stereo line-level RCA input connections located on the rear-mounted amplifier panel. Ensure all connections are secure. The subwoofer includes a detachable three-prong power cord.

1.4 Initial Power-Up

After making all connections, plug in the power cord and turn on the main power rocker switch. The LED indicator light on the front of the subwoofer will illuminate (blue for on, red for standby/off).

2. Operating Instructions

The SVS PB-2000 features a Sledge STA-500D DSP amplifier with various controls for fine-tuning performance.

2.1 Controls

  • Volume/Gain Control: Adjusts the overall output level of the subwoofer.
  • Phase Control (0-180 degrees): Allows for continuous adjustment of the subwoofer's phase to ensure seamless blending with main speakers.
  • Low Pass Filter (50-160 Hz, 12 dB/octave): Controls the upper frequency limit of the subwoofer. Can be disabled for LFE (Low-Frequency Effects) settings.
  • Auto-On / On Toggle Switch: Selects between automatic power on/off based on audio signal detection or continuous operation.
  • 3-12V Trigger Input: Allows for external control of the subwoofer's power state.

2.2 LED Indicator

A blue LED indicates the subwoofer is active, while a red LED indicates standby mode. The subwoofer has a green standby mode with less than 0.5 watts consumption.

3. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and performance of your SVS PB-2000 Subwoofer, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the cabinet. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Grille Care: The protective non-resonant steel mesh grille can be removed for cleaning or aesthetic preference. Handle with care to avoid bending or damage.
  • Placement Environment: Avoid placing the subwoofer in direct sunlight, near heat sources, or in areas with excessive moisture.

4. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your SVS PB-2000 Subwoofer, refer to the following common solutions:

  • No Sound: Check all cable connections, ensuring they are firmly seated. Verify the subwoofer is powered on and not in standby mode. Confirm the volume/gain control is not set to minimum.
  • Humming Noise: Ensure all audio cables are properly shielded and not running parallel to power cables. Try plugging the subwoofer into a different electrical outlet.
  • Distorted Sound: Reduce the volume/gain setting. Check the low pass filter and phase settings for proper integration with your main speakers.
