2. Setup and Initial Use
2.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove the guitar from its packaging. Inspect the instrument for any signs of damage that may have occurred during shipping. Retain all packaging materials for future transport or storage.
2.2 Tuning
The AW54CE is equipped with an onboard tuner for convenient and accurate tuning. To activate the tuner, press the 'Tuner' button on the AEQ210TF preamp. Strum each string individually and adjust the tuning pegs until the display indicates the correct pitch. The standard tuning for a 6-string guitar is E-A-D-G-B-e (from thickest to thinnest string).
2.3 Connecting to an Amplifier
To amplify the guitar's sound, connect a standard 1/4" instrument cable from the output jack located on the lower bout of the guitar to your amplifier or PA system. Ensure the amplifier is turned off or at a low volume before connecting to prevent sudden loud noises.

3. Operation
3.1 Playing the Guitar
Hold the guitar comfortably, either seated or standing. Use your fretting hand to press down on the strings against the frets to produce different notes and chords. Use your picking/strumming hand to pluck or strum the strings over the soundhole or near the bridge.
3.2 Using the Ibanez AEQ210TF Preamp
The AEQ210TF preamp provides control over your amplified sound:
- Volume Control: Adjusts the overall output level of the amplified signal.
- 2-Band EQ (Bass, Treble): These knobs allow you to shape the tonal characteristics of your sound. Turn the Bass knob clockwise to increase low frequencies and counter-clockwise to decrease them. Similarly, turn the Treble knob clockwise to increase high frequencies and counter-clockwise to decrease them.
- Phase Switch: This button reverses the phase of the output signal. It is primarily used to reduce feedback, especially in live performance settings. If you experience feedback, try engaging the phase switch.
- Tuner Button: Activates the onboard tuner. The output signal is muted when the tuner is active.
4. Maintenance
4.1 Cleaning
Regularly wipe down the guitar with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove dust, sweat, and fingerprints. For the open pore natural finish, avoid abrasive cleaners or polishes that may alter the finish. The fretboard can be cleaned periodically with a specialized fretboard conditioner.
4.2 String Replacement
Strings should be replaced regularly to maintain optimal tone and playability. The AW54CE uses Phosphor Bronze strings. When replacing strings, change them one at a time to maintain tension on the neck and bridge. Stretch new strings gently to help them settle and hold tune.
4.3 Humidity Control
Acoustic guitars are sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity. Store the guitar in an environment with stable humidity (ideally between 45-55% relative humidity) to prevent wood warping, cracking, or other damage. Consider using a guitar humidifier in dry climates.
4.4 Storage
When not in use, store the guitar in a suitable case or gig bag to protect it from dust, impacts, and environmental fluctuations. Avoid leaving the guitar in direct sunlight or near heat sources.
5. Troubleshooting
5.1 Common Issues and Solutions
- Buzzing Strings:
Possible Causes: High or low action, worn frets, improper neck relief, old strings.
Solutions: Check neck relief and adjust if necessary. Consider professional setup if buzzing persists. Ensure proper finger placement when fretting notes. - No Sound When Plugged In:
Possible Causes: Dead battery in preamp, faulty cable, amplifier issues, preamp settings.
Solutions: Check the preamp battery and replace if needed. Test with a different cable and amplifier. Ensure volume knob on preamp is turned up. - Poor Tuning Stability:
Possible Causes: New strings not stretched, worn tuning machines, improper string winding, environmental changes.
Solutions: Ensure new strings are properly stretched. Check for loose tuning machine screws. Wind strings correctly around the tuning post. Allow the guitar to acclimate to its environment. - Feedback Issues:
Possible Causes: High volume, proximity to amplifier, room acoustics.
Solutions: Engage the phase switch on the preamp. Reduce amplifier volume. Move further away from the amplifier.
