Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and use to ensure proper function and longevity of the product.

The Astralpool Anti-Freeze Control Box is designed to protect your swimming pool's hydraulic installation from freezing temperatures by automatically activating the filtration pump when the water temperature drops below a set threshold.

2. Safety Information

Important Safety Instructions:

  • Installation must be performed by a qualified professional electrician in accordance with local electrical codes and regulations.
  • Ensure the power supply is disconnected before performing any installation, maintenance, or repair work.
  • The control box is rated IP54, providing protection against dust and splashing water. However, it should not be submerged or exposed to direct high-pressure water jets.
  • Do not operate the unit if any part is damaged.
  • Keep children away from the control box and pool equipment.

5. Setup and Installation

Professional Installation Required: This electrical control box must be installed by a qualified professional to ensure safety and compliance with electrical standards.

5.1 Mounting the Control Box

  1. Choose a suitable location for the control box, protected from direct sunlight and excessive moisture, yet accessible for operation and maintenance.
  2. Ensure the mounting surface is stable and capable of supporting the weight of the unit.
  3. Mount the control box securely using appropriate fasteners.

5.2 Electrical Connections

All electrical connections must be made with the main power supply disconnected.

  1. Connect the main power supply to the designated terminals within the control box.
  2. Connect the pool filtration pump to the output terminals of the control box.
  3. Connect the NTC temperature probe to its dedicated input terminals.
  4. Ensure all connections are tight and properly insulated.

5.3 NTC Probe Placement

The NTC probe measures the water temperature. Its correct placement is crucial for accurate readings and effective anti-freeze protection.

  • Install the NTC probe in the pool's hydraulic circuit, ideally after the filter and before any heating elements, in a location that accurately reflects the pool water temperature.
  • Ensure the probe is fully immersed in the water flow.

6. Operation

6.1 Powering On

Once installation is complete and verified by a professional, restore power to the control box. The digital display will illuminate, showing the current water temperature.

6.2 Setting the Anti-Freeze Threshold

The anti-freeze threshold is the temperature at which the control box will activate the filtration pump to prevent freezing.

  1. Press and hold the "SET" button for more than 2 seconds.
  2. The display will show the current set point temperature (e.g., "C" followed by the temperature in °C).
  3. Use the "Up" (▲) and "Down" (▼) buttons to adjust the desired anti-freeze temperature. A common setting is between 1°C and 4°C.
  4. To confirm and save the new set point, press the "SET" button again, or wait for 10 seconds for the setting to automatically save and return to normal operation.

6.3 Automatic Operation

When the water temperature measured by the NTC probe falls below the set anti-freeze threshold, the control box will automatically activate the pool filtration pump. The pump will run until the water temperature rises above the threshold, preventing ice formation in the pipes and equipment.

This system simplifies active winterization, allowing the pool to remain filled without the need to significantly lower the water level.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the reliable operation and longevity of your anti-freeze control box.

  • Annual Inspection: Have a qualified professional inspect the control box and all electrical connections annually, especially before the winter season.
  • Cleanliness: Keep the exterior of the control box clean and free from dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Probe Check: Periodically check the NTC temperature probe for any signs of damage or corrosion. Ensure it is securely in place and fully immersed in water.
  • Functionality Test: Before winter, test the anti-freeze function by temporarily lowering the set point or using a cold object near the probe (if safely accessible) to verify the pump activates.
