2.2 Power Connection
Connect the power cord to the printer and then to a grounded electrical outlet. Do not connect the interface cable (USB or Ethernet) yet.
2.3 Toner Cartridge and Drum Unit Installation
Open the front cover of the printer. Remove the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly from its protective packaging. Gently shake the toner cartridge horizontally a few times to distribute the toner evenly. Insert the toner cartridge firmly into the drum unit until it locks into place. Install the drum unit assembly back into the printer and close the front cover.
2.4 Loading Paper
Open the paper tray and adjust the paper guides to fit the paper size you are using. Load up to 250 sheets of paper into the tray. Close the paper tray. The printer supports various paper sizes up to 8.5 x 14 inches.

4. Maintenance
4.1 Replacing the Toner Cartridge
When the 'Toner Low' or 'Replace Toner' message appears on the display, it's time to replace the toner cartridge. Open the front cover, remove the drum unit assembly, and then detach the old toner cartridge from the drum unit. Install a new Brother genuine high-yield toner cartridge (e.g., TN-660 for 2,600 pages) into the drum unit until it clicks. Reinstall the assembly into the printer and close the cover.
4.2 Cleaning the Printer
Regularly clean the exterior of the printer with a soft, lint-free cloth. For the scanner glass, use a soft cloth dampened with a non-abrasive glass cleaner. Avoid spraying cleaner directly onto the glass. Periodically clean the corona wire inside the drum unit to maintain print quality.
4.3 Checking Drum Life
The printer's display or web interface can show the remaining drum life. Replace the drum unit when prompted to ensure optimal print quality. The drum unit is a separate consumable from the toner cartridge.
5. Troubleshooting
5.1 Paper Jams
If a paper jam occurs, the printer's display will indicate the location of the jam. Carefully open the specified covers and gently pull out any jammed paper in the direction of the paper path. Ensure no small pieces of paper remain inside the printer.
5.2 Connectivity Issues
If the printer is not connecting to your network or computer:
- Verify that the printer's Wi-Fi indicator light is on and stable.
- Check your router and ensure it is functioning correctly.
- Restart both the printer and your computer/router.
- For wireless connections, re-enter your network password via the touchscreen if necessary.
- For wired connections, ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected at both ends.
5.3 Print Quality Problems
If prints are faded, streaky, or have spots:
- Check the toner cartridge level and replace if low.
- Clean the corona wire in the drum unit.
- Ensure you are using Brother genuine toner and drum units.
- Adjust print density settings through the printer's menu or computer driver.
