2. Safety Information

WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions could result in injury or damage to the product.

  • Scalding Protection: This thermostat is equipped with a safety stop at approximately 38°C (100.4°F) to prevent accidental scalding. This feature can be overridden for higher temperatures by pressing a button, but exercise extreme caution.
  • Professional Installation: Installation should be performed by a qualified professional in accordance with local plumbing and building codes.
  • Water Pressure: Ensure water pressure is within the recommended range for optimal performance and to prevent damage.
  • Cleaning: Use only mild cleaning agents. Abrasive cleaners can damage the chrome finish.
  • Backflow Prevention: The unit includes backflow preventers in the S-connections, making it safe against backflow in domestic use (as per DIN EN 1717).

3. Package Contents

Please check that all components are present before beginning installation:

  • Hansa Bath Thermostat unit (Model 58102101)
  • S-connections with dirt collection filters and backflow preventers
  • Mounting hardware (screws, wall plugs)
  • Instruction Manual (this document)

4. Setup and Installation

4.1 Pre-Installation Checks

  • Turn off the main water supply before starting any work.
  • Ensure the wall surface is clean, dry, and structurally sound to support the thermostat.
  • Verify that the hot and cold water supply lines are correctly identified.

4.2 Mounting the Thermostat

  1. Mark the drilling points for the S-connections on the wall. The standard center distance for connections is 150 +/- 15 mm.
  2. Drill holes and insert wall plugs.
  3. Attach the S-connections to the wall, ensuring the dirt collection filters and backflow preventers are correctly oriented.
  4. Connect the hot and cold water supply lines to the respective S-connections. Hot water is typically on the left, cold on the right.
  5. Mount the thermostat body onto the S-connections and tighten securely.

4.3 Post-Installation

  • Slowly turn on the main water supply.
  • Check all connections for leaks.
  • Test the thermostat's function, including temperature control and diverter.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Temperature Control

The thermostat features a single operating handle. Rotate the handle to adjust the water temperature. The safety stop is set at approximately 38°C (100.4°F). To exceed this temperature, press the safety button on the handle while rotating it further.

5.2 Flow Control and Diverter

The same operating handle also controls the water flow. Push or pull the handle to turn the water on or off and adjust the flow rate. The integrated diverter allows you to switch between the bath spout and a connected shower head. The flow rate is approximately 22 L/min for the spout and 19 L/min for the shower head, measured at 3 bar dynamic pressure.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

To maintain the chrome finish, clean the thermostat regularly with a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaning agent. Avoid using harsh chemicals, abrasive sponges, or acidic cleaners, as these can damage the surface.

6.2 Dirt Collection Filters

The S-connections contain dirt collection filters to protect the thermostat from impurities in the water supply. If you notice a decrease in water flow or inconsistent temperature, these filters may need cleaning. Turn off the water supply, carefully remove the S-connections, clean the filters under running water, and reassemble.

6.3 Thermal Disinfection

The thermostat is suitable for thermal disinfection according to W551 DVGW-tested standards, provided the temperature lock is not mounted. Consult a professional for specific procedures if thermal disinfection is required.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Water Flow or Low Flow: Check if the main water supply is on. Inspect the dirt collection filters for blockages (refer to Section 6.2).
  • Inconsistent Temperature: Ensure hot and cold water supplies are correctly connected. Clean dirt collection filters. If the issue persists, the thermostat cartridge may require professional inspection or replacement.
  • Leaks at Connections: Tighten connections carefully. If leaks persist, check the condition of seals and O-rings. Do not overtighten.
  • Safety Stop Engaged (38°C): This is a normal safety feature. To exceed 38°C, press the safety button on the handle while rotating.

For issues not listed here, or if troubleshooting steps do not resolve the problem, please contact a qualified plumber or Hansa customer support.
