2. Setup
2.1 Unpacking and Placement
Carefully remove the printer from its packaging. Place the printer on a stable, flat surface with adequate space around it for ventilation and paper handling. Ensure the power cable can reach an electrical outlet without strain.
2.2 Power Connection
Connect the power cord to the printer and then to a wall outlet. Press the power button to turn on the printer.
2.3 Ink Cartridge Installation
Open the front cover of the printer to access the ink cartridge compartment. Install the black and color ink cartridges into their respective slots. The Fast Front feature allows for quick and easy access.
2.4 Paper Loading
Open the front paper tray. Adjust the paper guides to fit the width of your paper. Load paper into the tray with the print side facing down. Ensure the paper is not overfilled.

2.5 Wireless Setup
The PIXMA MX472 supports wireless connectivity. Follow the on-screen prompts on the printer's display to connect to your Wi-Fi network. Alternatively, use the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button on your router and the printer for a simplified connection. This enables features like AirPrint and Google Cloud Print.
3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Printing
To print from a computer, ensure the printer drivers are installed. Select the print option from your application and choose the Canon PIXMA MX472. For wireless printing from a compatible smartphone or tablet, use AirPrint (for Apple devices) or Google Cloud Print (for various devices). Select the document or image you wish to print and send it to the printer via your network.

3.2 Copying
Place the document face-up in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) or face-down on the scanner glass. Use the control panel to select the copy function, choose color or black-and-white, and specify the number of copies. Press the Start button to begin copying. The ADF can hold up to 30 sheets for multi-page copying.
3.3 Scanning
Place the document face-up in the ADF or face-down on the scanner glass. From your computer, open the scanning software (e.g., Canon IJ Scan Utility) and select the scan option. Choose your desired settings (e.g., document type, resolution, destination folder) and initiate the scan. Documents can also be scanned to mobile devices using the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY app.
3.4 Faxing
Connect a telephone line to the printer's FAX port. Place the document face-up in the ADF or face-down on the scanner glass. Use the numerical keypad on the control panel to enter the recipient's fax number. Select the fax function and press the Start button to send the fax.

4.1 Ink Cartridge Replacement
When an ink cartridge runs low or is empty, a message will appear on the printer's display. Open the front cover, remove the empty cartridge, and insert a new genuine Canon ink cartridge. Optional XL or XXL pigment black ink cartridges are available for extended printing.
4.2 Cleaning
Regularly clean the exterior of the printer with a soft, damp cloth. For print quality issues, perform print head cleaning or alignment from the printer's maintenance menu or through the printer software on your computer. Clean the scanner glass periodically to ensure clear scans.

5.1 Common Issues and Solutions
- Printer Not Responding: Ensure the printer is powered on and connected to the network or computer. Check for any error messages on the display. Restart the printer and your computer/router if necessary.
- Poor Print Quality: Perform a print head cleaning and alignment. Check ink levels and replace cartridges if low. Ensure you are using appropriate paper settings for your print job.
- Paper Jams: Follow the on-screen instructions or refer to the printer's internal guides to carefully remove any jammed paper. Avoid tearing the paper during removal.
- Wireless Connection Issues: Verify your Wi-Fi network is active and the printer is within range. Re-run the wireless setup process if the connection is lost. Ensure your router's firmware is up to date.
