1. Introduction
This manual provides instructions for the Retevis FC9002A 6-in-1 USB Programming Cable. This cable is designed to facilitate the programming of various two-way radios from brands such as Retevis, Baofeng, Motorola, HYT, ICOM, and Kenwood. It includes a main USB cable and six different adapters to ensure broad compatibility. The cable allows users to program radio frequencies and settings efficiently using computer software, eliminating the need for manual keypad input.
2. Package Contents
- 1 x Retevis USB Programming Cable
- 6 x Retevis Adapters for various radio types

3. System Requirements
- Operating System: Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows 8. (Note: Not compatible with Mac OS or other operating systems.)
- USB Port: Available USB 2.0 or 3.0 port.
- Programming Software: Compatible radio programming software (e.g., CHIRP, manufacturer-specific software).
4. Setup Guide
4.1 Driver Installation
- Connect the Cable: Plug the USB end of the programming cable into an available USB port on your computer.
- Automatic Driver Installation: For Windows 7, 8, and 10, the operating system may attempt to install drivers automatically. Allow this process to complete.
- Manual Driver Installation (if necessary): If automatic installation fails or if you are using Windows XP, you may need to install the driver manually. The cable typically uses a Prolific chip. It is recommended to use a stable driver version, such as Prolific 2.0.0.26, if issues arise with newer drivers. Drivers are often provided on a mini-CD with the cable or can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website.
- Verify Installation: Open Device Manager on your computer (Right-click "My Computer" or "This PC" -> "Manage" -> "Device Manager"). Look under "Ports (COM & LPT)" for "USB-Serial CH340" or "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port". Note the assigned COM port number (e.g., COM3, COM5).
4.2 Connecting to Your Radio
- Select the Correct Adapter: Identify the appropriate adapter for your specific two-way radio model. The cable includes adapters for various radio types, including those with 2-pin Kenwood-style connectors, single-pin connectors, and others.
- Connect Adapter to Main Cable: Plug the chosen adapter into the female jack of the main USB programming cable.
- Connect to Radio: Insert the adapter's pins into the programming port of your two-way radio. Ensure a secure connection. For some Yaesu models (e.g., FT-60, VX-6), the plastic body of the adapter may need slight trimming to fit correctly.

5. Operating Instructions
- Launch Programming Software: Open your preferred radio programming software (e.g., CHIRP, manufacturer's software) on your computer.
- Configure COM Port: In the software settings, select the COM port number identified during driver installation (Section 4.1).
- Read from Radio: Power on your radio. In the software, select the option to "Read from Radio" or "Download from Radio". This will transfer the radio's current settings to your computer.
- Edit Settings: Modify frequencies, channels, tones, and other settings as desired within the programming software.
- Upload to Radio: Once modifications are complete, select the option to "Upload to Radio" or "Write to Radio" to transfer the new settings to your device. Ensure the radio remains powered on and connected during this process.
- Disconnect: After successful programming, safely disconnect the cable from your radio and computer.
Important: Always save a backup of your radio's original programming before making any changes.
6. Maintenance
- Store the cable and adapters in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Avoid bending or kinking the cable sharply to prevent internal wire damage.
- Keep connectors clean and free of dust or debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
- Do not expose the cable to liquids.
7. Troubleshooting
- Issue: Cable not recognized by computer or software.
- Check Drivers: Ensure the correct Prolific USB-to-Serial driver is installed. Older versions (e.g., 2.0.0.26) may be more stable for some systems.
- Verify COM Port: Confirm the assigned COM port in Device Manager matches the selection in your programming software.
- Try Different USB Port: Connect the cable to a different USB port on your computer.
- Restart Computer: A system restart can sometimes resolve driver conflicts.
- Issue: Programming fails or radio does not respond.
- Correct Adapter: Double-check that you are using the correct adapter for your radio model.
- Secure Connection: Ensure the adapter is fully inserted into both the main cable and the radio's programming port.
- Radio Power: Confirm the radio is powered on during the programming process.
- Software Compatibility: Verify that your programming software supports your specific radio model.
- Adapter Fit: For radios like Yaesu FT-60/VX-6, the adapter's plastic housing might need minor trimming to allow full insertion into the radio's jack.
- Issue: Radio transmits unexpectedly during programming.
- This can indicate a driver or cable communication issue. Reinstall drivers or try a different USB port. Ensure the radio is in programming mode if required by its design.
