This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Oster BVSTEM6601S-049 Prima Espresso and Latte Maker. Please read all instructions carefully before first use and retain this manual for future reference.
Important Safety Instructions
- Always unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet before cleaning or when not in use.

Setup
- Unpacking and Placement: Remove all packaging materials. Place the appliance on a stable, level, heat-resistant surface near an electrical outlet. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.
- Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the water reservoir, milk chamber, portafilter, and filters with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. Wipe the exterior of the main unit with a damp cloth.
- Fill Water Reservoir: Remove the transparent water reservoir from the back of the unit. Fill it with fresh, cold water up to the MAX line. Reattach the reservoir securely.
- Fill Milk Chamber (Optional for Espresso): If preparing milk-based beverages, remove the milk chamber. Fill with desired milk (whole, low-fat, organic, or soy milk are suitable) up to the MAX line. Reattach the milk chamber to the front of the unit.
- Power On: Plug the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet. Press the power switch located on the side or back of the unit. The indicator lights on the control panel will illuminate.
- Priming the Unit: Before making your first beverage, it is recommended to run a cycle with just water to prime the system. Place a cup under the dispenser, select the 'Espresso' button (single shot), and let the water run through. Repeat for the milk frother by selecting 'Clean' or a milk-based option without milk in the chamber.



Operating Instructions
Your Oster Prima Latte Maker offers automatic and manual brewing functions for various coffee types.

- Preparing Ground Coffee:
- Use freshly ground, dark roasted coffee. The grind should be fine, similar to salt, for optimal extraction.
- Insert the appropriate stainless steel filter (single or double shot) into the portafilter.
- Fill the filter with ground coffee (7g for single, 14g for double). Do not overfill.
- Lightly tamp the coffee with the measuring scoop's flat end. Wipe any excess coffee from the rim.
- Attach the portafilter to the brewing head by aligning it and twisting firmly to the right until secure.
- Making Espresso:
- Ensure the water reservoir is filled.
- Place a cup under the portafilter.
- Press the 'Espresso' button for a single or double shot. The machine will automatically brew and stop.
- Making Cappuccino or Latte:
- Ensure both water reservoir and milk chamber are filled.
- Adjust the froth control knob on the milk chamber to your desired intensity.
- Place a suitable cup under the coffee and milk dispensers.
- Press the 'Cappuccino' or 'Latte' button for a single or double serving. The machine will automatically brew coffee and froth milk.

- Use the 'Custom' button to manually control the amount of espresso. Press once to start, press again to stop.
- Use the 'Froth' button to dispense frothed milk independently. Press once to start, press again to stop.
- Auto Shut-Off: The machine features an auto shut-off function after 90 seconds of inactivity and a power save mode if no operation occurs within 15 minutes.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and longevity of your appliance.
- Daily Cleaning:
- After each use, remove the portafilter and discard used coffee grounds. Rinse the portafilter and filter under running water.
- Empty and rinse the drip tray. The two removable drip tray grates can be cleaned separately.
- Milk Chamber Cleaning: After preparing milk-based beverages, press the 'Clean' button on the control panel to automatically steam clean the milk system. For thorough cleaning, remove the milk chamber and wash it with warm, soapy water. The milk chamber can be stored in the refrigerator between uses.
- Wipe the exterior of the machine with a damp cloth.

- Descaling: Over time, mineral deposits can build up in the machine, affecting performance. Descale your machine regularly, depending on water hardness (e.g., every 2-3 months). Refer to the full instruction manual for specific descaling procedures using a suitable descaling solution.
