4. Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to set up your airbrushing system:

  1. Unpack Components: Carefully remove all items from the packaging and inspect for any damage.
  2. Position Compressor: Place the TC-320 Cool Runner II Air Compressor on a stable, level surface in a well-ventilated area. Ensure there is sufficient space around it for airflow.
  3. Attach Air Hose: Connect one end of the air hose to the air outlet on the compressor. Ensure a secure, airtight connection.
  4. Connect Airbrush: Attach the other end of the air hose to the air inlet of your chosen airbrush (G22, S68, or E91). Hand-tighten to prevent air leaks.
  5. Install Airbrush Holder: If using the universal clamp-on airbrush holder, secure it to your workbench or a stable surface. The compressor also has a built-in holder.
  6. Power Connection: Plug the compressor's power cord into a grounded electrical outlet.
  7. Initial Check: Before adding paint, turn on the compressor and check for any air leaks by listening for hissing sounds. Adjust connections if necessary.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Preparing Paint

  • Always thin your paint to the consistency of milk for optimal airbrush performance.
  • Use appropriate thinners recommended by the paint manufacturer.
  • Strain paint through a fine mesh filter to remove any particles that could clog the airbrush.

5.2. Using the TC-320 Compressor

  • Turn on the compressor using the power switch.
  • Adjust the air pressure using the regulator knob. The gauge will display the current pressure.
  • The compressor features an automatic on/off shutoff, activating when air is drawn and deactivating when not in use.
  • The water trap filter collects moisture from the air. Regularly check and drain it as needed.

5.3. Airbrush Operation (General)

  • Gravity Feed (G22): Pour prepared paint into the top-mounted fluid cup.
  • Siphon Feed (S68, E91): Fill the siphon bottle with prepared paint and attach it to the airbrush.
  • Dual-Action (G22, S68): Press the trigger down for air, then pull back for paint. This allows for fine control over both airflow and paint volume.
  • Single-Action (E91): Press the trigger down for both air and paint. Paint volume is typically adjusted by a needle stop or by thinning.
  • Practice on scrap material to get a feel for the airbrush and paint flow before working on your final project.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Airbrush Cleaning

Proper cleaning after each use is crucial for airbrush longevity and performance.

  1. Empty Paint: Remove any remaining paint from the fluid cup or siphon bottle.
  2. Flush with Cleaner: Fill the cup/bottle with appropriate airbrush cleaner or water (depending on paint type) and spray through the airbrush until clear.
  3. Back-Flush: For gravity feed airbrushes, cover the nozzle with a finger or cap and pull the trigger back to bubble cleaner into the cup, dislodging paint.
  4. Disassemble and Clean: For thorough cleaning, carefully disassemble the airbrush (needle, nozzle, air cap) and clean each part with a soft brush and cleaner. Be extremely careful with the needle and nozzle as they are delicate.
  5. Reassemble: Reassemble the airbrush, ensuring all parts are correctly seated and tightened.

6.2. Compressor Maintenance

  • Drain Water Trap: Regularly drain accumulated moisture from the water trap filter at the bottom of the regulator.
  • Keep Vents Clear: Ensure the compressor's cooling vents are free from dust and debris to maintain optimal cooling.
  • Storage: Store the compressor in a clean, dry environment when not in use.
