3. Setup
3.1 Battery Installation
Each Retevis RT628 walkie talkie requires 3 AA batteries (not included). Ensure correct polarity when inserting batteries.
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the walkie talkie.
- Open the battery compartment cover.
- Insert 3 AA batteries, matching the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals as indicated inside the compartment.
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.

3.2 Attaching the Belt Clip
The included belt clip allows for convenient carrying.
- Align the belt clip with the designated slots on the back of the walkie talkie.
- Slide the clip downwards until it clicks securely into place.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Power On/Off
To power on or off the walkie talkie, press and hold the Power button (usually marked with a power symbol) for approximately 3 seconds until you hear a confirmation tone or the LCD screen illuminates/shuts off.
4.2 Channel Selection
The RT628 features 22 channels. To change channels:
- Press the MENU button once. The channel number on the LCD screen will flash.
- Use the Up (▲) or Down (▼) buttons to select your desired channel (1-22).
- Press the MENU button again to confirm, or wait a few seconds for the setting to save automatically.
4.3 CTCSS/DCS Codes
To reduce interference from other users, you can set CTCSS (Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System) or DCS (Digitally Coded Squelch) codes. This allows you to communicate only with users who have the same channel and code settings.
- Press the MENU button twice (for CTCSS) or three times (for DCS). The code number will flash.
- Use the Up (▲) or Down (▼) buttons to select your desired code (1-121 for CTCSS/DCS).
- Press the MENU button to confirm.
4.4 Volume Adjustment
Use the Up (▲) or Down (▼) buttons to adjust the speaker volume. The volume level is displayed on the LCD screen.
4.5 Keypad Lock
To prevent accidental changes to settings, you can lock the keypad. Press and hold the MENU button for 5 seconds until a key icon appears on the LCD screen. To unlock, repeat the process.

4.6 VOX Function (Hands-Free Operation)
The VOX (Voice Operated Exchange) function allows you to transmit without pressing the PTT button. The walkie talkie will automatically transmit when it detects your voice.
- Press the MENU button four times. The VOX icon will flash.
- Use the Up (▲) or Down (▼) buttons to select a VOX sensitivity level (e.g., 1-3, with 3 being most sensitive).
- Press the MENU button to confirm.
4.7 Call Tone
To send a call alert to other users on the same channel, press the CALL button (often labeled 'MON' or a musical note icon).
4.8 Flashlight
To activate the built-in flashlight, press the LAMP button (often marked with a lightbulb icon). Press again to turn off.
4.9 Transmitting and Receiving
- To transmit, press and hold the PTT (Push-To-Talk) button on the side of the walkie talkie. Speak clearly into the microphone.
- Release the PTT button to stop transmitting and listen for a response.

5. Maintenance
- Keep the walkie talkies dry. If they get wet, wipe them immediately.
- Avoid exposing the devices to extreme temperatures.
- Clean the devices with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Remove batteries if the devices will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 No Power
- Check if batteries are inserted correctly with proper polarity.
- Replace with fresh batteries.
6.2 Poor Sound Quality or No Reception
- Ensure both walkie talkies are on the same channel and CTCSS/DCS code.
- Check the volume level.
- Move closer to the other user or to an area with fewer obstructions.
- Ensure the antenna is not obstructed.
6.3 Keypad Not Responding
- Check if the keypad lock is activated (key icon on LCD). Unlock by pressing and holding the MENU button for 5 seconds.
