3. Setup

3.1 Speaker Placement

For optimal sound quality, place the speakers on a stable, flat surface. Position them equidistant from your listening position, forming an equilateral triangle. Ensure the tweeters are roughly at ear level. The included rubber feet can be applied to the bottom of each speaker to minimize vibrations and provide stability.

3.2 Connecting the Speakers

The Kanto YU2MW speakers consist of one active (left) speaker and one passive (right) speaker. The active speaker houses the amplifier and all input/output connections. The passive speaker connects to the active speaker via the provided speaker wire.

  1. Connect the Passive Speaker: Use the included speaker wire to connect the active speaker's "Right Channel Out" terminals to the passive speaker's "Right Channel In" terminals. Ensure positive (+) terminals are connected to positive (+) and negative (-) terminals to negative (-).
  2. Connect Power: Plug the power cord into the active speaker's power input and then into a wall outlet.

3.3 Audio Source Connection

The YU2MW offers multiple ways to connect your audio source:

  • USB DAC (Digital Audio Converter): For high-quality digital audio from your computer, connect the included USB DAC cable from your computer's USB port to the USB input on the active speaker. This bypasses your computer's internal sound card for superior sound.
  • 3.5mm AUX Input: Use the included 3.5mm auxiliary cable to connect devices with a headphone jack, such as smartphones, tablets, or other media players, to the AUX input on the active speaker.
  • Subwoofer Output: To enhance bass, connect an optional powered subwoofer to the "Sub Out" port on the active speaker.

4. Operating Instructions

  1. Power On/Off: The active speaker features a volume knob on the rear panel. Turn this knob clockwise to power on the speakers and increase volume, and counter-clockwise to decrease volume and power off. A small LED indicator on the front of the active speaker will illuminate when powered on.
  2. Volume Control: Adjust the master volume using the knob on the active speaker. You can also control the volume from your connected audio source (computer, smartphone, etc.).
  3. Source Selection: The YU2MW automatically detects the active input. If multiple sources are connected, ensure the desired source is playing audio.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the speaker cabinets. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents.
  • Dusting: Regularly dust the speaker cones and tweeters with a soft brush or compressed air to prevent dust buildup.
  • Placement: Avoid placing speakers in direct sunlight, near heat sources, or in areas with high humidity.
  • Protection: Keep speakers away from liquids and ensure proper ventilation to prevent overheating.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 No Sound

  • Ensure the speakers are powered on and the LED indicator is lit.
  • Check all cable connections (power, speaker wire, audio source) are secure.
  • Verify the volume knob on the active speaker is turned up.
  • Confirm the audio source (computer, phone) is playing and its volume is not muted or too low.
  • If using USB, ensure the correct audio output device is selected in your computer's sound settings.

6.2 Distorted Sound

  • Reduce the volume on both the speakers and the audio source.
  • Check for loose or damaged cables.
  • Ensure the speaker wire connections are correct (positive to positive, negative to negative).
  • If distortion occurs at high volumes, especially with heavy bass, consider adding a powered subwoofer via the "Sub Out" port to offload low frequencies from the main speakers.

6.3 Bright LED Indicator

  • The front LED indicator is designed to show power status. Its brightness is fixed. If it is distracting, consider adjusting speaker placement or using a small, non-obstructive cover.
