Introduction

The Nikon Df is a 16.2 MP CMOS FX-Format Digital SLR Camera Body, designed with a blend of classic mechanical controls and advanced digital technology. It features a 16.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor paired with EXPEED 3 image processing, offering an optimal balance of resolution, image quality, and shooting speed. The camera incorporates dedicated mechanical dials for shutter speed, ISO sensitivity, exposure compensation, exposure mode, and release mode. Its 39-point autofocus system includes 9 highly accurate cross-type sensors, and it boasts a wide ISO range of 100–12,800, expandable down to 50 and up to 204,800. The Df is compatible with all current AF-S, AF-D, and AF NIKKOR lenses, and a metering coupling lever allows use with AI and non-AI lenses. Setup

1. Unpacking and Initial Inspection

Carefully unpack all components from the box. Verify that all items listed in the "What's in the Box" section are present and undamaged. If any items are missing or damaged, contact your retailer.

2. Attaching the Strap

Attach the provided AN-DC9 strap to the camera's strap lugs. Ensure it is securely fastened to prevent accidental drops.

3. Charging and Inserting the Battery

The camera uses an EN-EL14a Rechargeable Li-ion Battery. Before first use, fully charge the battery using the MH-24 Quick Charger. Insert the charged battery into the battery compartment at the bottom of the camera, ensuring it clicks into place.

4. Inserting a Memory Card

The Nikon Df supports SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards. Open the memory card slot cover and insert a compatible memory card with the label facing the correct direction until it clicks into place. Close the cover securely.

5. Attaching a Lens

Remove the body cap from the camera and the rear cap from your NIKKOR lens. Align the mounting marks on the lens and camera, then rotate the lens counter-clockwise until it clicks into place. The Df is compatible with a wide range of NIKKOR lenses, including older AI and non-AI lenses.

Operating the Camera

1. Power On/Off

Rotate the power switch located around the shutter release button to turn the camera on or off.

2. Basic Shooting Modes

3. Focusing

The Df utilizes a 39-point autofocus system. You can select AF-S (single-servo AF) for stationary subjects or AF-C (continuous-servo AF) for moving subjects. Use the multi-selector to choose an autofocus point.

4. Image Playback

Press the playback button (usually indicated by a triangle icon) to view your captured images and videos on the LCD screen. Use the multi-selector to navigate through photos.

5. Menu System

Press the MENU button to access the camera's settings. Use the multi-selector to navigate through menu options and the OK button to confirm selections.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning the Camera

Use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the camera body. For the LCD screen, use a specialized screen cleaner and cloth. Never use alcohol or harsh chemicals. For the lens, use a lens brush and lens cleaning solution.

2. Battery Care

Store batteries in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid fully discharging the battery frequently to prolong its lifespan. Recharge the battery before long periods of storage.

3. Storage

When storing the camera for extended periods, remove the battery and memory card. Store the camera in a dry, dust-free environment, preferably with a desiccant to prevent mold and mildew.
