Installation

The FibroPool 3-Way Diverter Valve is designed for straightforward installation without requiring disassembly. It uses standard 1.5-inch PVC slip/glue connections.

  1. Prepare the Pipe: Cut the PVC pipe to the desired length and carefully remove any burrs from the cut edges to ensure a smooth fit and proper sealing.
  2. Clean Surfaces: Clean the outside of the PVC pipe and the inside of the valve port using PVC pipe cleaner. Allow both surfaces to dry for approximately 30 seconds.
  3. Apply First Coat of Glue: Apply a uniform coat of PVC cement to the outside of the pipe and the inside of the valve port. Allow it to partially dry until tacky (approximately 15-30 seconds).
  4. Apply Second Coat & Insert: Apply a second coat of PVC cement to both surfaces. Immediately insert the pipe fully into the valve port with a quarter turn to ensure even distribution of the cement and a secure bond. Hold firmly for a few seconds.
  5. Cure Time: Allow adequate cure time for the PVC cement as recommended by the adhesive manufacturer before pressurizing the system.

Operating Instructions

The 3-way diverter valve allows you to control the direction of water flow within your pool or spa plumbing system. The self-locking handle provides secure positioning.

  • Diverting Flow: To divert water, simply rotate the handle to align the clear indicator with the desired outlet port. The handle will lock into position, preventing accidental changes.
  • Shutting Off Flow: To completely shut off flow to a specific port, rotate the handle so the indicator points away from that port, or to a position that blocks the flow as needed for maintenance or system isolation.
  • Mixing Applications: For mixing applications, position the handle to allow flow through multiple ports simultaneously, if your system design permits.

Always ensure the pump is off before adjusting the valve to prevent water hammer or damage to the system.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and proper function of your diverter valve.

  • Routine Inspection: Periodically inspect the valve for any signs of leaks, cracks, or damage. Check the handle for smooth operation and ensure it locks securely.
  • Cleaning: If debris accumulates around the valve, gently clean the exterior with a soft cloth and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could damage the PVC finish.
  • Seal Check: While the valve is self-lubricating, if you notice any stiffness in the handle or minor leaks, consult a qualified pool technician. Do not attempt to disassemble the valve body unless you are a trained professional.
  • Winterization: In colder climates, ensure the valve and associated plumbing are properly drained and protected from freezing temperatures to prevent damage.

Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your diverter valve.

  • Leakage at Connections:
    • Cause: Improper PVC cement application or insufficient cure time during installation.
    • Solution: If possible, drain the system, cut out the leaking section, and re-install the valve or a new section of pipe following the installation instructions carefully. Ensure proper cure time.
  • Stiff or Difficult Handle Operation:
    • Cause: Accumulation of mineral deposits or debris, or wear on internal components.
    • Solution: Ensure the valve is clean externally. If the issue persists, contact a qualified pool technician for inspection.
  • Incomplete Shutoff or Diversion:
    • Cause: Debris lodged within the valve, or internal seal wear.
    • Solution: Turn off the pump. Attempt to cycle the handle through its full range of motion several times to dislodge any minor debris. If the problem continues, professional inspection may be required.
