  1. Connect one end of the Thunderbolt cable to the Thunderbolt port on your G-DRIVE mobile.
  2. Connect the other end of the Thunderbolt cable to a Thunderbolt port on your Mac computer.
  3. The drive is bus-powered and will automatically power on. It comes pre-formatted for Mac (HFS+ Journaled) and should appear on your desktop.

4.2. Connecting to a PC

  1. Connect one end of the USB 3.0 cable to the USB 3.0 port on your G-DRIVE mobile.
  2. Connect the other end of the USB 3.0 cable to a USB 3.0 port on your PC.
  3. The drive is bus-powered and will automatically power on. For use with Windows, the drive will need to be reformatted. Refer to your operating system's documentation for instructions on how to format a drive.

4.3. Bus Power

The G-DRIVE mobile is bus-powered, meaning it draws power directly from your computer through the Thunderbolt or USB 3.0 cable. No external AC adapter is required for operation.

5. Operating the G-DRIVE mobile

Once connected, the G-DRIVE mobile functions like any other external storage device.

5.1. Data Transfer

To transfer files, drag and drop them to and from the G-DRIVE mobile icon (Mac) or drive letter (PC) on your computer. The 7200RPM hard drive and high-speed interfaces (Thunderbolt and USB 3.0) provide transfer rates up to 136 MB/s. Actual performance may vary based on your hardware, software, and system configuration.

5.2. Time Machine Compatibility (Mac)

The G-DRIVE mobile is compatible with Apple Time Machine for quick and easy backups of your Mac. To use Time Machine, select the G-DRIVE mobile as your backup disk within the Time Machine preferences.

5.3. Safe Ejection

Always safely eject the G-DRIVE mobile before disconnecting it from your computer to prevent data corruption. On Mac, drag the drive icon to the Trash or use the Eject command. On PC, use the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" option in the system tray.

6. Maintenance

Proper care ensures the longevity and performance of your G-DRIVE mobile.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the drive. Avoid liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Temperature: Operate the drive within recommended temperature ranges. While the aluminum casing helps dissipate heat, prolonged heavy use may cause the drive to become warm. Ensure adequate ventilation.
  • Physical Protection: The solid aluminum case provides durability, but avoid dropping or subjecting the drive to severe impacts.
  • Data Backup: Regularly back up important data stored on the G-DRIVE mobile to another storage device.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your G-DRIVE mobile, refer to the following common solutions.

7.1. Drive Not Detected

  • Check Connections: Ensure both ends of the Thunderbolt or USB 3.0 cable are securely connected to the drive and your computer.
  • Try Another Port/Cable: Test with a different port on your computer or a different cable if available.
  • Restart Computer: A system restart can often resolve detection issues.
  • Check Disk Management (PC) / Disk Utility (Mac): Verify if the drive is recognized by your operating system's disk management tools. If it appears but is unformatted, you may need to format it.

7.2. Slow Performance

  • Verify Connection Type: Ensure you are using a Thunderbolt or USB 3.0 port on your computer for optimal speed. Connecting to a USB 2.0 port will result in slower transfer rates.
  • Close Background Applications: Other running applications can consume system resources and affect transfer speeds.
  • Check Drive Health: Use disk utility tools to check for any errors on the drive.

7.3. Drive Gets Warm

It is normal for the drive to become warm during extended periods of data transfer or heavy use. The aluminum enclosure helps dissipate heat. If the drive becomes excessively hot or exhibits unusual behavior, ensure it has adequate ventilation and is not covered.
