3. Securing the Safe with the Tethering Cable
The steel tethering cable provides an additional layer of security by allowing you to attach the safe to a fixed object.
- With the safe open, locate the cable port on the side of the safe.
- Feed the loop end of the steel tethering cable through the cable port.
- Wrap the cable around a secure, immovable object (e.g., a car seat frame, a bed frame, or a desk leg).
- Pass the safe through the loop of the cable to secure it to the object.
- Close the safe lid and turn the key counter-clockwise to lock it. This action will secure the tethering cable within the safe, preventing its removal while locked.

Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable operation of your SentrySafe PP1K.
- Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the safe with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the finish.
- Lock Mechanism: Periodically check the key lock for smooth operation. If the lock feels stiff, a small amount of graphite lubricant (not oil-based lubricants) can be applied to the key and inserted into the lock, then turned several times.
- Interior Foam: The compression foam lining can be gently cleaned with a lint roller or a slightly damp cloth if necessary. Ensure it is completely dry before placing firearms back inside.
- Key Storage: Always keep spare keys in a secure location separate from the safe and away from unauthorized individuals.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your SentrySafe PP1K, consider the following:
- Key not turning: Ensure the key is fully inserted and that there is no obstruction in the keyhole. Try wiggling the key gently while turning. Do not force the key.
- Lid not opening: After turning the key, ensure the lid is not being held down. The spring mechanism should open it automatically. If it feels stuck, gently apply upward pressure to the lid while turning the key.
- Tethering cable stuck: Ensure the safe is fully unlocked and the lid is open. The cable should then be free to move. If it remains stuck, check for any debris in the cable port.
